I'm hesitant to give knies anything more than 4th line minutes until he proves he can make the jump and even then asking him to jump into playoff hockey from the NCAA is asking a hell of a lot.
If he's the extra I'm also ok with that
Yeah I agree in a sense but I think the kid has the size and skills to step in this year. If he isn’t the answer this year I guess kerfoot in that spot is decent

I have been a very harsh critic of Dubas, but I got to give credit where is due. A solid move made by him to acquire O'Reilly, and this team now is probably one of the best down the Middle. Hopefully, this leads to advancing to the second round now after 19 years of painful memories.

I full agree the potential is there and he is built right that's why I wouldn't mind him starting in the 4th and working his way up because it's the level of play that would be the adjustment for him

Acciari might be a great shift disturber to go out there and disrupt your Stamkos' and Kucherov's of the world.
And Marchand

Really needs to be emphasized that we added a 4th for double retention even though we had the cap space to get the deal done without it.

That can only mean that we have another addition in mind...(oh hi, Kane!).
Good point

Perhaps something with the Hawks?
Like Kane (very cheap as he may have Hawks over a barrel given will only move to the Leafs) and Jake McCabe at 1,.75 million
Holl, Kerfoot, Engvail on the way out to rebuild lost draft capital and free up cap room at the same time in separate deals, and open up a defence spot?

Then we really would be all in.

Of course the cost to do this is the great unknown, at least a prospect and a 2nd.

The more I look at this ROR deal the more I appreciate the creativity and upside (a healthy motivated dominant presence along with the Acciari feistiness and physicality) and the immense downside (same playoff result, ROR not the player he was, they both walk this summer). Dubas must have something further up his sleeves-like a pre arranged extension agreement at a discount

What I find kind of interesting in the 4th for Minnesota's retention is how expensive it is for a team to manufacture a mid round pick. Literally costs millions.

A lot of flexibility though. Maybe we get a Top 4 D?

You mean the guy who has only missed 29 games since 2016 prior to his fractured foot?

The old slow guy who is exactly 7 months older than Jarnkrok? That guy? The guy who is 5 months younger than Tavares?
Missing games has nothing to do with what I said. He is still long the downside of his career and hasn't looked good at all this season.
Not sure what this means.

I'll make sure to run things by you to make sure we can celebrate appropriately though.
The team hasn't had anything to celebrate and adding another end of his career player isn't going to change that. I equate adding ROR as the same as adding Foligno.

This aint the ROR of two years ago. I think you guys overpaid from a desperate GM trying to save his job...

Well you have to win round #1 in order to attempt to win more.

The goal is not simply to win 1 but rather win the Cup.

If the Leafs only won a single round I think many would be disappointed by the outcome. IMO
I would hope so but I did see a couple of posts, “if we win a round it was worth it, Dubas is safe” or something very similar

Getting ahead of things a little, but I wonder if ROR takes a Spezza/Giordano extension?

I don’t think he’s going to take league minimum but can we get him at 4.5 instead of 7.5 on a 2 year deal? Probably. I’ve been high on the ROR train. I believe he’s wanted to play in Toronto for some time now and they’ve finally made it happen.

The fact ROR wanted to come here is amazing and bodes well this isn’t a rental. Welcome home, now bring it home!
Could definitely solve the 3C spot for a few years if he takes a fair AAV. Also puts Kampf to 4C where I think he belong. Excellent center depth if ORielly returns to his play in previous years and should be a boost to the 3rd line
