Since Igor’s contract doesn’t kick in until next year, don’t we have a ton of cap space available at this dealing? Drury should be offering to be a third party retaining on any expiring contracts move at the TDL if he doesn’t use his retention spots on his own guys.

I expect them to retain on Smith and Lindgren, and possibly Kreider to sweeten the return if a team wants him

that was my understanding. We have heaps of room right now - like around $14m or something, but 'only' around $18m in space to sign everyone for next year

I think the answer is all 4 of those are elite. I think Hedman gets a little extra credit due to the massive sample size and the fact that he isn’t at the level he once was. Makar’s sample size is also larger, but another thing to keep in mind is Georgiev/Kuemper, etc. vs Shesterkin/Vasilevsky. Again though, no player in the NHL knows - or cares - about these stats. Hedman’s numbers are close enough to Fox’s, with or without any benefit of the doubt for age/sample size, that it’s pretty clear playing against a literal Viking giant is a lot tougher than playing against Fox. Likewise, just having to skate after Makar all game could wear you down. In the context it was said, no one was insinuating Fox isn’t good, but it sounds like playing against Fox doesn’t “feel” as tough, or draining. It doesn’t take the same toll, so to speak. Or that - while maybe not even realizing that the puck is going the other way more often than not when he’s on the ice - he’s easier to beat in one on one battles when they occur. I don’t remember who said it, but it makes the argument for getting him a large, physical partner who can skate paramount. If we‘re assuming that Fox and Shesterkin are essentially the foundation of everything going forward, for better or worse, than getting Fox the right partner should be nearly as high of a priority as finally finding a 1C in their prime.

Luckily, Fox’s partner doesn’t have to be a big producer on his own, which means his price may be a bit less. Byram, if he could stay healthy (which he’s done better) would probably be a very good buy low candidate. Kaiden Guhle would be the dream candidate; I wonder if Montreal would move him to bring Frenchy home, because under no other circumstances would they consider it. Sanheim is another one who would do the job very well. Oleksiak is nowhere near the solution but could be a good buy low stop-gap. Same for Soucy. Not a ton of realistic LH options out there, honestly. Byram may be the most achievable and has a lot of good upside.

Is that regular +/- or even strength? NaturalStattrick has Fox at +11 and Lindgren at +6 at 5v5 across the 3 playoffs. Last year Fox was a +3 and Lindgren -1 and the numbers when Fox played with Gustafsson/Miller were absurd. NYR basically were on a power play when Fox got away from him

Rempe doesnt play enough. For a team that doesnt draw penalties, he is the best on the team at drawing them. he's no more defensively irresponsible than our top 6.
