At this point it has to be a serious run or cup or this move might be Foligno 2.0 if they do not resign both.
Well it’s clear that Dubas intentions are to make a serious run, so hopefully it pans out

Haha. The live thread on the trade board is so salty. People just falling over each other just to say Toronto lost this trade.
Haters will be haters. If we got McDavid they would still say we lost the trade

Really like the trade. Especially since we still got the kids. Abramov is not a big loss. Picks.. aren't guaranteed. Acciari is a good piece too

I still think we need a better 2nd line LWer and an upgrade on defense, but this trade addresses a lot of issues with not only the talent of the bottom 6, but the style as well.
Agreed. Huge overpayment that now prevents the leafs from making other more pressing deals. At least he could have dumped the useless Kerfoot or Engvall to make room for future acquisitons.

If he is giving up more of the future to win this year, they better not fail or Leaf nation won't be taking any prisoners.
Those picks that may or may not provide NHL players 3-6 years down the road. You don't win by hoarding picks and not using them to improve your roster. Does Tampa win without going in on Goodrow and Coleman?

Do Matthews and others re-sign here if the GM does nothing to help the NHL team at the deadline, but he hoards his picks that won't have any bearing on the NHL club for at least half a decade down the line?

They have all 10 of their top prospects, and all 1sts going forwards except this one in 2023. The future is looking fine.

Unsigned prospect playing his overager year in the WHL. A throw in prospect, not much there I don't think. Could be brought in to the Marlies.

Seems very random to have an unsigned prospect as a throw-in.

Maybe they see something in him, but he is a VERY big long shot. It isn't like this does anything contract-wise, so if he is never playing a game, it seems like a weird add.

I'm a big Acciari fan .. I remember he was a PITA in those series against Boston .. great to have on our side for the fourth line.

Plus he's had some good offensive years so he can score.

In his last 4 playoff series totalling 19 games.

Sounds a lot like like ZAR
In 2019 he scored 20G but his shooting% was 18.5%, he is a career 11.2% guy so that 20G season is an albatross.

I found it interesting that he did finish 19th for the Selke in 2019.

Also if people think dumping 3-5 picks every year to fix previous mistakes & at the deadline is some master stroke by Dubas they're fooling themselves.

I don't know about that, but the public position is that Dubas doesn't have a contract. So if the Leafs don't advance to the point where it is acceptable to the people above Dubas he won't be offered a contract, he might be fired especially if they want someone in place before the draft, or he could walk regardless of the outcome. Leaf Nation will have to accept any possibility.

Minny had to give up something for the trade and instead of a pick, they gave up a long-shot prospect that has been injured a lot.

Again, one too many picks traded. Like the 2nd in 2024, that was the one I read especially and thought Armstrong was being greedy.

But alas, these are the two types of players this team really needs. In fact, not that there are many naysayers (at least here, unlike on the main boards where the flat-earthing frothers reside), but a bunch of the naysayers here seem to be the ones who advocated for these types of players and are now backing off since the deal was made. Let's see what they can do.

Do future considerations not work in this situation? I always assumed one side of trades in the NHL could be nothing.

Or is ROR not the piece coming back from Minny? Seems weird.

Regardless, seems like a nothing player coming back for whatever reason.

We all know what picks were traded? Great contribution!

Yeah, they really haven't done that. There was the Marleau mistake. And the Mzarak mistake - we had to drop down 12 places. The others are additions to the team.

So what I’m most curious about is where does ROR play?

Do you see him on the wing on 2nd line? Or centering 3rd line?
