I think it’s very likely they extend ROR, if you can move out Kerfoot and Engvall you have money for ROR and an ELC replacement.
I think we’ll re-sign O’Reilly as well. Dubas mentioned he didn’t want to give up a 1st or top prospects for a pure rental.

At this stage in O’Reilly’s career, being an Ontario native, I can definitely see the interest in playing here in a 3rd line center role with opportunities here and there to jump up and play with either Matthews or Tavares on the LW.

This makes a lot more sense than going after Chychrun. There is definitely a risk factor due to ROR health concerns but it makes sense. Getting Acarei should help, this is the way to change the bottom 6 into making the Leafs team different than previous years….up next move out Kerfoot with eyes of continuing to overhaul the bottom 6.

The question is RORs health but otherwise this is an ideal transaction. We don’t dip into out top prospects and move a late first and draft capital. We pay < 2m and acquire an ideal bottom 6er in acciari (been wanting him since Boston days). Need to give to get.

I think the comparison to Foligno is slightly skewed given the accolades and playoff success that pair with ROR. Need to flip Kerfoot for something and get something for the back end.

To me the forward group looks like:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Orielly - Kerfoot
ZAR - Kampf - Acciari

Kerfoot is redundant now that we have two quality pkers who are built for the postseason. Quite honestly he doesn’t fit anywhere.
It's good to give O'Reilly some wingers that can really skate tbh. Keefoot might find some offense playing with a better centre other than Kampf.

By trading them a draft pick! Also it’s clear Minnesota will be sellers now.
Even though he has been benched/pressboxed for taking too many ill timed penalties, I still would have asked Minny about Ryan Hartman.

More tough to play against if they can get him to toe the company line.

One thing to think about is that Keefe likes to stack lines randomly throughout the game to take advantage of icing or o-zone draws, he can now put out a stacked line of ROR - Matthews - Marner (or something similar), and then immediately have Bunting - Tavares - Nylander ready to go, instead of having to rest the 2nd line for a shift and put out Kampf or give Tavares two average players.

Technically yes at double retention, but we'd either have to waive some depth or trade someone out at the same time.

I think at 50% they can get him, but Kerfoot has to go back the other way.

I am assuming we'd be getting rid of a roster player anyway since we would have too many.

For sure, I think acquiring Hartman would have cost a bit more than Accari though. And I think we’d definitely have to move someone off our roster. I don’t think Kyle is done, whether it’s McCabe or Schenn I think we add one more defenseman maybe even another depth forward.

I feel like everyone in Minny is just having a horrible horrible year lol.

BTW, how are Abrams and Gaudette? Are they reasonable for depth call ups or destined to stay as trade pieces in the minors?
Gaudette is a former Hobey Baker winner with good speed. Leafs have called up approx 5 AHL forwards but not him yet.
He has NHL experience and is a warm body is all.

Unfortunately for St Louis the Leafs wanted to clear 2 roster spots for the 2 new players and these were the 2 that were added.
Nothing to see here.

Dubas has pushed in his chips. Does he make this trade if he is not a lame duck GM ??

I hate giving up 4 picks but I do like the players but would have been hesitant to make this move given we have to go through Tampa and Boston just to get out of the Atlantic.

We now need to get by Tampa (minimum) or Dubas and Keefe are done. Shanny probably stays to pick up the pieces.
Well a good many of his chips. There are a good number left too. He does what he thinks will help the team.

Abramov is a decent prospect with solid all around skill. Offensively he's not that great but plays a good 2-way game. He was a good defensive player for the Marlies for awhile. Good skater. Not sure he's NHL potential but could reach as a depth player.

Gaudette is a just a career AHLer. Could be a decent stop gap for the Blues while they transition the rest of the year.

Great trade for the leafs. Really solidified our centre depth and our bottom six. Still has wiggle room to make another trade or two for a defenceman or winger or both.

As for the picks and futures, they can trade all their picks for the next few drafts for all I care as long as that means a serious playoff run or possibly a cup.

At this point it has to be a serious run or cup or this move might be Foligno 2.0 if they do not resign both.

Won't quote the post as it has already been quoted enough, but JFresh commented on the value of draft picks that we gave up.

And a little old, but this is a chart that is somewhat accurate today probably

Also, love that he called out Sid since he restricts comments and is a clown

This makes me most excited for ROR, the raw totals are down, but they may not be down because he has been terrible
