If Knies can actually fit in, and I say that because it’s unfair to just slot in without that qualifier, we look primed up front now. My number one need, by a massive amount, was forward depth, within in that “grit”, we’ve addressed it, plus character in spades. The price is high, but a late, late first, is a crap shoot anyways.

I cannot wait for the egg on face posts from those whose first and only reaction is negative because of who engineered the trade, instead of grading the trade on how it helps the team.

It's so mind-numbingly obvious.
Sir, do you sleep? LOL You're definitely a die-hard fan, posting all night.

Good trade. Maybe a bit steep, but it had to be done. Acciari is exciting too!

If they can replace Kerfoot with another Accari type player and bring Knies up they'll be set for the playoffs.

Not sure who they will add but I’d assume they will add someone. They have one of the best front offices
Their prospect pool is basement, and they have almost no picks.

What team do you cheer for again?

I’m not saying they are going to get Timo Meier, but I’m sure they can find a way to get some depth 3rd/4th line scoring. They have had a really good track record and picking up deadline players (hagel, coleman, Goodrow, etc)

And for what it is worth, they do have a 1st in 2025 and their 2nd next year.

BLUES: For Blues fans who don't know much about you because you've spent your whole career in the Eastern Conference, what would you tell them about the player they're getting?

ACCIARI:
I'm a heavy player. I'll finish every check. I'll do my best to block every shot in the D-zone. Anything I need to do to help the team, I'm gonna do. That's the kind of player I am - I'll stick up for guys, do whatever I need to do. I can play up and down the lineup, so whatever they need me for, I'll be ready. I can play center, left wing, right wing, anything - I'll even drive the Zamboni if I need to. Wherever I am in the lineup, I'm going to bring the same game I do every night.

That's only part of it.

It cost a 1st and 2nd to get a double retained ROR with a $1.875 million cap hit instead of $7.5 million.
Cap retention means almost nothing on a 2-3 month rental. How does it affect St Louis in even the slightest? They're in rebuild mode. They're not doing anything with that cap space regardless.

I was in the aquiring a D camp and/or just holding steady to see the team Dubas built. With that said this is a fantastic trade if Ryan is healthy and i give Dubas kudos for recognizing the types of players we need. Both add grit, competitiveness and physicality while not taking away from offense.

Never minded Dubas’ moves he’s a sly GM but he needed to change the teams style of play and direction which this trade definately does. If he continues down this path and we stop the perimiter hockey in the playoffs I’m happy.

Our pp and pk will also get a boost.

Iuno about Kane but I think we add a Soucy type for depth.

Trades at/near the deadline are only ever worth it if you win the cup. Odds are it will be a “bad trade” in that respect (we gave up a lot of future), but an odds are lower to win the cup if you don’t make this trade.

I see the Foligno trade comparison worries. I believe he was coming off an injury(“upper body”) as ROR is (broken foot), but the back injury he later incurred, for Foligno, rendered him useless. These are the risks with older players. But where else do you get recent Conn Smyth, Selke cup Stanley Cup winners?

A foot injury is different than a back injury obviously.

“I was just dealing with a really bad back injury that was debilitating,” Foligno said. “There was nerve pain. Shut down my whole right leg. It was really disappointing that happened at the time it happened. Anything else you can play through a lot of times. This I couldn’t.” -Foligno

O’Reilly broke his foot blocking a shot on Dec 31. He returned to practice on the 9th at which time he was skating for 3 days. That put him just barely at 5 weeks before he returned. It’s only been a week since then (3 games) Did the Blues rush him back for trade showcase reasons? Leafs would be wise to ease him in both in ice time and utilization. He’s a big investment, last thing you need is him blocking a shot on the PK and off he goes again.

I have no doubt that ROR is what they needed to get. Along with Acciari, that experience lets you rely less on guys like Holmberg or Anderson (as much as I like themin intense playoff battles. I think his foot will still slow him down for a few weeks, but it will get better, unlike Foligno’s back.

Love his enthusiasm, be it when he scores, or blocks a shot, he just loves the game. Hope to have him looking across at his old Boston team in the second round. Rhode Island born, he can be the reverse “Ontario Boy” playing in Boston for us.

The question is RORs health but otherwise this is an ideal transaction. We don’t dip into out top prospects and move a late first and draft capital. We pay < 2m and acquire an ideal bottom 6er in acciari (been wanting him since Boston days). Need to give to get.

I think the comparison to Foligno is slightly skewed given the accolades and playoff success that pair with ROR. Need to flip Kerfoot for something and get something for the back end.

To me the forward group looks like:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Orielly - Kerfoot
ZAR - Kampf - Acciari

Kerfoot is redundant now that we have two quality pkers who are built for the postseason. Quite honestly he doesn’t fit anywhere.

It seems likely that Dubas isn’t done yet. Will he go after a top six winger still? A dman with some jam? Or maybe he still wants to improve the bottom six?

Do you think it would make sense to go after Laughton, or are we set for the bottom six?

Fingers crossed we can extend his stay here a couple seasons like we did with Gio.

If that does happen then I think this is a huge W

How all in are we? The cost of Domi/Bertuzzi can't be too high (2nd + small add?). Do we do something bigger like Kane?

Pretty sure we have ~3 million in cap space if we carry just Timmins as the extra, and I feel like the double retention was on purpose.

Dubas has pushed in his chips. Does he make this trade if he is not a lame duck GM ??

I hate giving up 4 picks but I do like the players but would have been hesitant to make this move given we have to go through Tampa and Boston just to get out of the Atlantic.

We now need to get by Tampa (minimum) or Dubas and Keefe are done. Shanny probably stays to pick up the pieces.

Cap retention is important for fitting under the cap .. and also leaving space for other additions.

Means a lot more then you’re implying
