That may be true but only 10 of the original players remain. Their management have done a very good job going forward
To me, it also shows HOW BAD Shanahan has done with our re-build. We are spinning our wheels season after season and NOT getting any better!

Holl has actually been decent, especially ever since being paired with Brodie. Not sure why you’d move him unless we’re getting an upgrade in return.

What's frustrating about fire drill Rielly is even though Liljegren made two boneheaded mistakes that cost two goals against, he still looked like the less panicked between the two.

Rielly is just running around out there on defensive coverage like he has no idea where to go, and on a 2 on 1 he wants to do everything.

correction:

Lily made one boneheaded mistake that led to one goal against. The others he wasn't even on the ice for it

1. Sandin boneheadedness
2. Shorthanded goal
3. OT goal (Marner's fancy BS + Rielly's Stupidity in the d-zone)

Yeah, first one was Sandin, I caught that after.

I get it
But as a d man you have to anticipate better and be the rescue valve in case something happens like that
No matter 3 on 3 4 on 4 or whatever
Your job is to anticipate

By the way i Know why he cheated there a bit which unfortunately cost him and us , he thought it was going the other way and he was going to change

It’s all good
Really
Shit happens

The switch was lazy IMO. not sure what Marner was doing in the OT and who he was trying to cover

They played well. Something is wrong with Mathews, though.

I didn't think he was too, too bad out there. He had a couple of howitzers from the point on the PP, got his body into the play, and made some nice backchecks. What were you seeing?

Too many mental mistakes. Does them in all the time.

tonight's game reminded me of the series against CBJ

- pour in the shots
- don't allow many shots against opposition but allow them grade A quality chances (breakaways, turnovers, etc...)
- get blocked in neutral zone
- lose the game

one would think they would have learned from experience but .....

He’s just OK. Not his dominanating self, I guess.

Don't let the fact that we stole a point from Vegas tonight fool you into thinking that this team, as currently constructed, is as good as Vegas. In fact, don't let the disparity in shots fool you. For the first half of the game, we were a train wreck defensively, being outhustled and outmuscled for pucks. Rielly is truly clueless on the defensive side of the game. Our 3rd stringer earned us this point with some key saves in the first and second period. But being what he is, he doesn't make enough stops to overcome some truly boneheaded blunders and giveaways.

At this point, we can't play with Vegas and expect to win 4 out of 7. Kerfoot, Engvall, ZAR, Jarnkrok just don't have the consistent heart to play hard the entire 60 minutes. Not saying we can't get there, but we need better consistent play from the core 4 and several trades, especially for a better quicker, more physical bottom 6.

Best player tonight was Kampf. Some would think it's Marner based on those 2 elite plays but his overall play is still too loosey goosey and that OT showed all that is wrong with Marner.

this is the opinion you get when you watch the stat sheet and not the game

no it's the opinion you get when you don't give a player that almost always sucks anu slack because he doesn't deserve it.

I can count the number of times Kallgren has been good in his career on one hand with fingers left over

Blues keep losing now is probably a time to see what is the asking price for Tarasenko and if he can be had for Kerfoot+Engvall+2nd/3rd or something...

no 1st round picks or top prospects (Robertson, abruzzese, knies).

I might consider throwing in Robertson or abruzzese if blues were willing to trade both ROR+Tarasenko (both pending UFAs) with retention. Would be a hardsell though b/c someone else might play a lot more than leafs

Here's the thing. I don't mean to rag on them as I felt at times this game, they really gave VGK fits, but Vegas is just a complete team from their forward depth to D.

Toronto so far this year has given me no indication that they're equipped to handle what the playoffs will throw at them. They're the same team essentially except they're less deep.

Liljegren and Sandin may look good in spurts but their inexperience has led to numerous turnovers, offense in transition for the opposite team and goals. Also as far as I can remember, we've just plain sucked in overtimes.

they didn't steal a point.

They gave up 20 shots, you can't expect much more from the defense than that.

they got 800 goaltending you aren't going to win with 800 goaltending.

even 850 which still sucks would have been enough

You can very easily clean up the D and allow less chances, but Kallgren is limited in how much he can support. Hes just not very good.

As others have said, pissed away a point tonight, but will take 5/6 points out of Boston, Carolina, Vegas. I find our play still sloppy, lots of give aways in our zone especially along the walls, far too many good chances given up. Maybe it just early on in the regular season but if it consist, could be a problem.

Vegas 4th line is good though, big boys that play with speed that causes turnovers, night and day from our 4th line that trys to play with skill and lots of puck possession.
