Am I the only one happy that Xhekaj didn't get suspended? Game 1 is vs Montreal. Hopefully, Reaves will earn his paycheck.

I thought they'd suspend him a single regular season game just to avoid that situation.

Aren't you hoping Reaves doesn't dress?

Xhekaj is more important to Montreal than Reaves is to Toronto, so I suppose it'll be a good trade on penalties.

He is still fun to watch, he is a negative when it comes to winning though, so I'd like them to upgrade on him if possible (which it currently is).

So, overall, yes.

For entertainment purposes, no.

Both are fringe NHLers.

Unfortunate for Laine, it wasnt that dirty but.. preseason, c'mon, do you really need to do that?

I dont like either team but let me tell you guys: I will be watching the first game when you play against habs this upcoming season and I will be enjoying every moment. :D Nothing like a good drama and Canadian teams doing each other dirty. Keep it up, I love the content. 🥰

Parros is a huge joke, Montreal fans want the players to injure all our stars for the season.
Time we send them a huge message by dressing a bunch of goons for the first game.
seems like cte chronic traumatic enkephalopathy he is at risk unprofessional lack of judgement impairing critical thinking skill

It's pretty common knowledge that bare knuckle fighting is safer than using gloves...

I’ve been punched in the head both ways, I prefer the glove on.

I am not going to read through this, but I am assuming the big difference is the hand wraps.

Your hands without wraps have give, your hands with wraps are basically concrete.

Biggest brainwash in leaf land is thinking Reaves would have prevented retaliation or somehow he will protects our star players by yapping from the bench.

We have already witnessed he doesn’t and when he fights is basically a bear hug match with all that armour on and most still have their shields on.

The only thing that hurts is their hands and it’s all about the circus afterwards raising their hands and celebrating tying to make a bear dance look like it’s something great.

Then the rest of his minutes on the ice are sheltered and he is still a defensively liability
It's not a deterrent. I don't think anyone has said it's a deterrent in the last 15 years.

What it will do though is have Arber fight Reeves and Reeves alone during the season opener. Amber won't be fighting other players on the roster as he would do if Reeves wasn't dressed.

Reeves and Arber will have their game long sideshow, allowing the more talented Leafs squad to concentrate on playing hockey.

Saw them in concert 40 yrs ago….gotta love Iron Maiden
I have been to only two concerts Metallica in 91 and Iron Maiden, dont know what year but Murder dolls was pre-concert band here in Sweden. One of the things i loved about Maidens concert is that the crowd is of all ages. I went with my mother and little brother.
One random guy was so drunk before any band even started play they had to escort him out of the building. To the cheers from a full stadium. He waved to the crowd thinking they loved him . If stupid was a team he would be the mascot. No Maiden for u sir.

Why is everybody talking about Xhekaj not getting suspended while conveniently ignoring the fact Pare stuck his leg out and destroyed Montreal's newly acquired star player's knee.

That was no accident. It wasn't a deliberate intent to injure. But it was a careless play that resulted in bodily harm to another player.

No different than checking someone from behind into the boards.

A dangeous play that should require supplemental disciplining. The fact Pare isn't good enough to ever serve that suspension is besides the point. The fact remains he stuck his knee out and into Laine's.

Then ran away when it came time to answer the bell.

Xhekaj gave Pare the opportunity to stand up for his actions and he did not. It was a classic case of a hit and run by someone too afraid of the punishment he knew was deserved and coming. If the situations were reversed I have no doubt there would be a contingent of fans calling for Pare's head on a stake saying he did it on purpose.

For proof you can read through the JT injury thread and see for yourself how many people were happy Foligno dummied Perry.

No one is ignoring anything. The focus is on Xhekaj because of the punches to the back of the head. I think Xhekaj was right to react, but he attempted to destroy a player's carear. Foligno should have fought Perry as Xhekaj should have fought Pare-again the punches to the back of the head were the problem.

A 3k fine lol. Not surprised considering how little this league cares about player safety.

Of course, if it was a Leaf, he'd be suspended for life.
Parros was not going to give him a regular game suspension, that is now clear...
And I don't remember the last time a player got a suspension AND fine on the same call, so the options (in Parros' seemingly very limited viewpoint) were a two preseason-game suspension or a fine.

2 game suspension probably would've been better for optics, but WiFi is already making the team and he would lose no money for sitting out those games, so it would just be a week of him training and watching from the pressbox which he probably was going to be doing anyway. It would shorten Montreal's game day roster though...

The fine gives him the tiniest slap on the wrist at least, hitting him for the maximum allowable 50% of a day's pay.
Unfortunately the system is, imo, outdated and that "only" amounts to ~$3000.

The issue is, it's clear that he should have. The player repeatedly and intentionally committed insanely dangerous retaliatory actions with potentially life altering impacts on a defenseless player outside of the flow of play. That is the #1 type of action that a department of player safety should be coming down on and trying to remove from the game. Suspending him for at least the first game against Toronto should be bare minimum, if the NHL cared about player safety.

3k is completely meaningless. Quite frankly, getting suspended for even just pre-season games is probably more impactful for him, as at least it would give him suspension history moving forward and force him to play catch up in conditioning as the season starts.

Just combed through the first few pages of that thread and I didn’t see anything of the fight itself

Almost everyone was talking about how they hope JT is ok, how it was a freak play…etc

Very very small minority said things like, perry could’ve tried harder to avoid it or that he’s a prick, but most people in agreement it wasn’t his fault l
