I actually thought last year Lily was playing great going into the playoffs and somehow he was the odd man out. This year that same thing is definitely happening to Benoit for whatever reason.
I thought he tailed off a bit prior to the playoffs actually, but first half of year was good. To be honest, for me, his best hockey was two years ago, everyone he paired with suddenly looked good. He's really plateaued for me, and I'm not sure I trust him in a tough series just yet. The pressure is on now, slip and you sit with the adds, so let's she how he responds.

He was awful last game. Benoit was good. I get the handedness but Edmundson is quite comfortable on the right side. Maybe it's more one last shot for Lil to show he can succeed prior to playoffs. He will be fine so long as there is no real pressure and he can freely skate up ice.
With this many D, Keefe must start icing those who want to compete. Otherwise, what is the point? I've seen no reason to take Benoit out over nearly everyone else. We need players who can handle pressure, the playoffs are not comfortable. Ice those who earn it and remove them when they stop giving a shit. If they want back in, earn it again.

I've really been impressed with Benoit's poise, especially under duress. That should translate well and with Lil to me his biggest fault is he falls apart mentally when pressured, the "moves the puck" narrative becomes mindless panic passes up the wall to the other team. Anyways, not going to cheer against him, I just don't feel it's deserved atm.

This could have been resolved bringing in Parayko at the deadline. Parayko Lyb and McCabe on the right and Brodie traded away

We now have a chance to keep people fresh for the playoffs we aren't catching Boston know.
Rotate the D
They should start resting guys soon. They are locked into third place at this point, so might as well keep everyone as fresh as possible.

You're right. I watch every game and I don't what Lilly is. I really liked him for the five games Mo was suspended. Since then, we haven't seen it.

I also feel like sitting Benoit could be rest or a reminder that we have depth now and everyone is fighting for their spot in the lineup every night...not that Benoit has done anything to suggest he needed a wake up call.
Sitting him in Montreal is wrong unless he is injured or sick.

I thought I remembered him and Gio being a great 3rd pairing but Keefe went away from it after McCabe and Schenn were brought in, could definitely be mistaken tho.

Just my opinion, maybe it was flawed.

It never really clicked to me until I just read it, but Reaves and Dewar played alot together I guess last season in Minny. So should help him ease in a bit with some familiarity.

Why is Nick Robertson still a leaf

We dont trust him like a top 6 LT piece. Hes in the AHL and wont play in the playoffs by the looks of it

He has been as good aa knies most of the year despite lesser role but has no future with the team

He should have been dealt for a 2nd and 3rd

Recouping picks would have been nice for a asset we aren't going to be keeping/using

Be patient with Robertson, he’s got a lot to offer.

He just needs time to work out the NHL

Edmundson is not better than Benoit at this point, quote me, write it down, I don't care. Dumb move.

He's better offensively for sure.

Like I understand Benoit has been pretty solid and I like him too but he wasn't great last few weeks. He almost cost the team in Buffalo with a brutal defensive play with 1 min left in the game but he was bailed out by Samsonov.

It's not a bad thing to rotate players like that. I'm sure he'll come back in soon, if not next game. It's not the end of the world.

And Montreal is Benoit’s hometown. Keefe you blockhead.

Channeling his inner Babcock. Benoit no means is Lidstorm. But dude, if you can't win against the Habs with a D playing off wing, then you really need to fold the season

This is how it will be. We need an ex-leaf to say how nice it is to not get called for everything all the time. :)

It would cost next to nothing to unload him with a $900k salary cost.
He is still a top 6 forward, and a center.
There are several teams that really aren't looking to win, just be somewhat respectable.

Leafs could probably even retain $3-4mm, and there'd be a line-up of teams taking him for that cash and term.

Isn't happening regardless.
Why would he bother moving for a year?

Leafs just have to construct a line-up to take advantage of all their players.

The need is a 2nd. line center, and a top defender.

And of course this is a team that should have the best coach that money can buy in hockey. That hasn't been seen for decades, and no Babcock wasn't that.

We shouldn’t waste the time and energy trying to move Tavares in his last year.

The team just needs to nut-up and tell him he’s going on LTIR before the deadline and coming back for the playoffs.

All they need to tell him is “do you want a cup before your career is over or not, John?”

Why is Marner absent? Flu symptoms?

They’re putting him on LTIR one day after the trade deadline. They did it wrong
