Leafs will be fine. Andersen's playing injured and he'll get back to being what he can be, an average or better starter. Campbell is really good insurance as a backup; we've seen many times the backup getting hot & taking over down the stretch or in the playoffs. Campbell's a great candidate for that as long as Keefe puts the trust in him.
Not every team that wins the cup has great goaltending, sometimes the goalie(s) is just good enough for the good team in front of them.
Okay, 2016 Matt Murray with Pittsburgh & oddly enough 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins with MAF. Those are prime examples with very similar situations. Murray wasn't that great for them, he was just good enough to get it done. Prior to 2016, between 2010 & 2015 Fleury sucked and blew it for Pittsburgh in years where they had cup contending teams on multiple occasions. The year he won the cup in 2009 he wasn't good but his team was. Pittsburgh is and always has been my #2 team so I naturally watch them even more closely when Toronto falls out of the race, I'm still rooting hard for Pittsburgh and watch them closely.name the last Stanley Cup champs that didn’t have a great goalie. I’ll wait.
I'd guess this weekend. If not then the next back-to-back. Probably about the same for Simmonds.when is Jack back????
Yeah the gear got bigger and the sticks got better. Cherry pickers are stretch passes. Tough to play against is blocking a shot yapping while you stick a stinky glove in their face. The games changed. They still stop pucks. What hasn’t changed. He also retired 20 yrs ago , the position has changed quite a bit since then .
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to replace Fred with Jack and hope/believe things will work out. Cap cap cap. But couldn't really say it's a downgrade if their play continues as its started this year.
The most games 29 year old JC has started in a NHL season is 26. Until he proves he can play more you can't count on him for more IMO.
CuJo got robbed of that Vezina that year.Cool tit bit about Vanbiesbrouck : he had a .900 sv% in the 92-93 season as a 5 foot 8 goalie...that's a miracle itself.
Only 3 goalies had a better sv% what Vanbiesbrouck that season : Cujo (.911), Potvin* (.910), Belfour (.906)
* Potvin (49 games) had an awesome gaa that season, 2.50, with Belfour (71 games) 2.56 they were the only 2 goalies with gaa u 3.00, thou Belfour was even better, because he played amazing 71 games
Goaltending is voodoo. Unless it isn't. I have brought it several times now, but the reason the majority of NHL starters are coming from Europe comes down to 1 thing. Prime years developmental time. Now it is hard to quantify and rank each league in terms of skill seeing as none of them play against each other. But what we do know is NHL is #1 KHL is #2. The rest of the leagues everybody seems to have their own opinion for. When you look at European goalies however, you see that they are getting opportunities to hone their skills in top level leagues when they are 16 years old. When you try and compare that to NA goalies, they are not playing pro until they are at least 20. And even then, the AHL, I have seen ranked as low as 8th best in the world, and is most likely no higher than 6th (NHL, KHL, SHL, Liiga, Swiss A, Czech). Then you get American Goalies who go the College route, and they don't end up playing pro games until they are 22-24. We would see much more consistency in goalie development if goalies were given a chance to play in top leagues.
Most ranking have it below the leagues I listed. NHL, KHL, SHL, Liiga, Swiss A/Czech Chance Liga 1I think the AHL is higher than the 6th to 8th best league in the world.
This is thehockeywriters ranking back in January https://thehockeywriters.com/top-10-best-ice-hockey-leagues/. They have the German DEL league ahead at 7. AHL at 8.I think the AHL is higher than the 6th to 8th best league in the world.

nope... sorry manThe AHL is closer to being 10th than being 3rd.
Steve Briere is definitely the problem. As a goalie from Winnipeg I have met him a few times and he's one of the worst goalie coaches I've ever experienced. Words cannot describe how stupid he is. I was shocked when I heard the Leafs hired him, even more so that he's lasted this long. So it's no wonder Andersen is so inconsistent. The coach is an absolute turd.
Campbell on the other hand had his resurgence under the goalie factory in LA. I hope he gets healthy and starts some games before he gets the Briere stink on him too.
