I actually don’t think the Leafs could trade Nylander now even if they wanted to. I read somewhere his NMC took immediate effect, I don’t know if that’s possible, but apparently Friedman was talking about it, allegedly according to what I read.

Nobody is trading for that 8x11.5 anyway imo. And it’d be a terrible look on us to trade him before he plays a game of an 8 year extension unless it was a pre-agreed sign and trade situation but we know it’s not.

Yeah, he has a full NMC now.

It says the same on CapFriendly too.

I believe the CBA allows for any NTC/NMC changes in an extension to count for the remaining of the previous contract too. This is why extensions are only allowed in the final season of the contract.

I'd hope we are securely enough in a playoff spot (minimum top 3 in the division, although ideally top 2) before serious thought is given to dangling the 1st as trade bait. I'd rather do nothing/nothing major than risk doing anything silly.

Interesting if true. I thought the current contract had the no move beginning in July. I can’t see how a contract that doesn’t take effect until July 2024 can have clauses that are active now, and I’m pretty sure they can’t renegotiate an existing contract.
