In the first half?.. i only caught the second half and it was pretty piss poor on their side of center
first half specifcally sure.

but they maintained the intensity for the whole game. they didn't play bad in the second half, it was just a good opponent. so yes, if we play like that we will beat most teams.

edmonton was on a 10 in a row heater, not every opponent we face is like that. we didnt play bad by any means.

Fair enough.. i saw it differently thats fine

They played good but at no time did they rev it up to meet the intensity of the other team - the goals against were lazy and poor

I think the Leafs are in a slide and are unlikely to win this one. There's something going on in that room that isn't right.

Despite that, I don't think firing anyone or making a big trade is the answer.

Almost every team has its' ups and downs. I think whatever the problem is, it comes from within and they have to solve it from within.

Some things I did like from the Edmonton game was a degree of physicality. Benoit especially delivered some hard checks in the Leafs' zone. Some of the forwards also pasted some defencemen into the boards as they were clearing the puck out of the Edmonton zone. I've been waiting for that for years. I also liked when Matthews and Rielly mixed it up with McDavid at the side of the Leafs' net in the third period.

Things didn't work out, but there is something to build on there.

The sooner they straighten themselves out, the better. It can't happen soon enough.

I love how our signings by Brad have such a positive affect on this team.
Reaves, Bert, Domi, Klingberg, Samsonov, while our player development people and GM said we couldn't count on McMann, Holmberg, Jarnpkrok.
I will not be watching.

If we put things into perspective and analyze things with "context" then you get to see the clear picture IMO. Klingberg is injured; Reaves was brought into add another element to the game not scoring. Samsonov well it is what it is I suppose

Bert and Domi on the other hand I think some context should be applied when looking at info

5on5 Stats
Domi (20) has 2 less 5v5 points than Nylander (22)
and
Bert with 1 less than Tavares (16)

How about splitting up the PP and making Domi/Bert important role players that have the confidence of the team and give them a bit of boost by showing they are part of the team

or how about putting three amigos on three different lines or at least three 11 AAV players (matthews, marner, tavares) on three different lines?

???

New players brought in should feel like part of the team, they are there to help the folks that are "already" here; they are not here to get the guys going that are alrady here it should be the other way around.

This is one of the primary reasons why we are "not" a team but a bunch of individuals. And all of this can solely be blamed on Keefe.

Really hoping for a loss here. I want Keefe gone more than I want the team to make the playoffs this year. I wanted him gone after the Columbus series. Please, for the love of...

Its MLSE... Its not a good time for a breakup Cinco. We got the ASG coming and all the kids coming over. I know this 3 way we have with MLSE us and Keefe is complicated, you know probably borderline abusive, but we got to stick with it for the sake of Mitch and the rest of the kids okay.

Leafs have followed a similar pattern of blown leads over the last four. They surprise the other team with some bang bang play early on, look like they’re ready for cruise control and the other team just keeps playing and gets rewarded. Islanders and Detroit are less skilled teams they just kept playing and being opportunistic.

Colorado and Edmonton looked like more serious teams that just woke up and pushed Toronto back on their heels and then out of the game. Their 6 on 5 EN vs those teams looked downright sad.

It would be hilarious if Marner got booed at the All-Star game.

You gotta win this one for Tre and to stop the bleeding. Sucks being nervous about the team right now.

I hear ya,

Cheering for Montreal and Detroit just so we can force changes, is a sad time but one we all saw coming eventually if changes weren't made.

MLSE doesnt care as long as we make it to the playoffs.

We need to miss it for changes. Lose that revenue.

Kids? Kids??? Nylander is 27, Matthews and Marner are 26. We have to remember these are men now. Unfortunately with different levels of maturity. Marner “we’re a great team”. But, I get your sarcasm lol.

Well some wanted toughness for the playoffs, we got tougher and gave up a dozen or so goals. 10 or 12 goals could have won us another 6 games big difference in a parity league.
Except toughness never showed up

Keefe fired if we lose tonight?

FWIW, I don’t think he’s a bad coach, but this season is the worst the Leafs have looked in years. Human beings get stagnant and need change, often a new coach is a good shakeup when a team is underperforming.

Exactly. The blown leads when playing your heart out signifies the coach isn't putting you in the best place to succeed.

Another story if they just sucked. And our level is bottom tier. Which we know is not true.

My sense is the pit they’ve dug for themselves is so deep that they can win 6-0 vs Calgary and the bitter aftertaste from the Islanders, Colorado and Detroit games are still there.

Will still walk into Vancouver with the feeling they’ll get torched. Maybe fare better in Seattle but those Winnipeg games too.

Blown leads means mental mistakes. Coach's have one job and its to set up the team to be strong in this area. The player does everything else.

You can tell the players are lost as soon as they don't fly in and try to score.

Kyper and Bourne had some stats, leafs are the bottom 10 in passing, and we have the shortest O Zone time in the league.

Which means, 34, 88 and 16 can't pass and score, its no man's land from that point on.
Which is what we see. They get more confused as the game goes on.

The playoff Leafs we have seen over the years is THIS.

We’re more of an NBA team than anything else. Starting 5 of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander and Rielly, no goalie and a vast bench of guys who don’t matter and may as well be in track suits. That’s the kind of dynamic that is permeated.
Well, Keefe did say he took pointers from Nick Nurse...

We didn't get tougher... anybody who knew these players, knew we weren't getting tougher... I was pretty vocal about that when they were signed. If we wanted toughness, we should have signed toughness...

Because Reaves will be either be on the bench, or more likely in the press box when Question 1 or 2 happens. If you aren’t on the ice, you can’t protect anyone, and this is a guy who is bad at hockey.

Does anyone legitimately believe that Matthews and Reaves will be on the ice at the same time? Seriously?

We need useful grit/physicality. People who are on the ice when it matters.

And yet Simmonds was a far better skater and hockey player than Reaves. If Reaves gets more than 40 games in, or any games in the playoffs, I’ll be surprised.

Domi is physical? In what way? He'll fight once or twice a year, and does rat things? He doesn't hit, that much is for sure.

Bunting was pesty... engaged after the whistle... Bertuzzi does too. Bertuzzi had one fight last year. Hit's far less than Bunting.

More physical... no, I just don't see it.

Bunting + Holl + Kerfoot 301 hits last year.
Domi + Bertuzzi + Klingberg 164 hits last year

Sure, there is more to physicality than hits... Some people are going to be disappointed when they actually see these guys play,

Domi has less hits than Marner. Bertuzzi has been ok... good at skating around, and sometimes forechecking. Reaves is permanently in the press box as expected.

it really wouldn't. Imagine how that would make Leafs fans look to prospective free agents in the future. There was a long period where no one good or local wanted to play here, amping up the negativity in such a public way would potentially put us on a path to bring that back.

I never understood why Leafs fans thought they were getting toughness in Bertuzzi and Domi, Neither of them have ever been that in their careers. Poking a guy in the nose after the whistle isn't the toughness this team needed. It is mental toughness that they needed, and Bertuzzi and Domi are not giants in that particular skill.
