About Steve

Owner CPGS

Steve has had a burning passion for goaltending since a ripe young age of 8. He grew up in Winnipeg where he played minor hockey until leaving home to play Juniors.

When Steve was 15, he moved away from home to begin playing Juniors in Trail, British Columbia. After Trail, he went on to play in the USHL for the Omaha Lancers and the Sioux City, Musketeers, before accepting a full scholarship to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (UAH).

After 3 years and a National Championship at UAH, Steve turned Pro, signing with the Boston Bruins organization and the Providence Bruins. Steve enjoyed a 9-year professional career, playing much of it in Fife, Scotland, where he met his wife, and started a family.

When finished playing professionally, Steve returned to UAH to pursue an MBA and coach their Goaltenders, including now-NHLer, Cam Talbot.

After UAH, Steve began coaching in the USHL (Omaha, Fargo, Des Moines), the NAHL (Topeka, Johnstown), and the WSHL (Casper).

Steve has had the great opportunity to learn from some of the best goalie coaches in the game like: Mitch Korn, Jacque Caron and Wayne Thomas to name a few. All of which he carries a great relationship with to this day.

Steve has been with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the past 7 seasons and has loved every minute. Working with some of the NHL's best Goaltenders such as Frederik Andersen, Jack Campbell, James Reimer and 2-time Stanley cup winner Curtis McElhinney.

"It's a grind, no doubt, but it's the best thing I've ever been a part of and I'm so grateful to be a part of such a storied franchise." - Steve Briere

Steve lives in Toronto during the season with his wife and 2 children and spends the off season in Stillwater, MN with his family.

So it looks like Shanny and Dubas did a Mission Impossible type break-in and got a hold of the blackmail material from Briere....Good job guys...next time they ask you to go to Tijuana and there are farm animals involved...just say NO!!

I'm not sure what this accomplishes because the talent seems to be the issue not the coach,. Now if Briere had real input on the goalie moves they made its a timely move. You can't really argue that he has done anything to make himself indispensable either so a safe move.

I can't recall a lot of goalie coaches who turned teams around as much as some who worked extremely well with particular goalies like Allaire. Maybe they can find an Allaire for Campbell?

.

The team has been an utter disaster since Briere's hiring in 2015. Hopefully the braintrust hires a coach who gets the team back to the level of playoffs success they achieved from 2004 through 2014.

I didn't have a problem with him

It's not exactly like he had a ton of talent to work with, all our guys have had pretty substantial warts

I blame the people identifying talent in that department first and foremost

I'm ok with change here. Never like to see someone lose their job, but it seems like it had to be done.

The bigger impact is going to be the personnel his replacement gets to work with. Let's see if there's some goalies drafted in the next few years that have any starter potential.

I’m praying this is part of a complete overhaul of the department
