This is exactly what I wanted to see.

It’s about time Mr. business pillars of goaltending is gone.

Never forget.

Wasn't that a coaching clinic for minor hockey coaches, where one of the biggest problems is a lack of goalie development? Seems like he was explaining that coaches know more than they think, and they don't have to be experts to do some good.

Having said that, he wasn't good for the Leafs, and was rightfully fired.

That was Dusty Imoo, who was the goalie coach of the Los Angeles Kings at the time. The Leafs considered hiring him before they hired Briere, but uh... Let's just say he has some controversial opinions on events and leave it at that, and the Leafs decided they didn't want to have to explain why they're hiring a raging transphobic jerk as their goalie coach.
Briere was hired in 2015. The Marlies wanted to hire Immo in 2021. The Leafs never considered Immo as their coach.

About f***ing time. Ok Oilers now you. You can't have your goaltending be ass for +7 years on not hold said person responsible.

It was a horrible analogy.

When was the last time most folks were satisfied with the goalie coaching? A couple decades ago?

Seems to be the organization's continuous weak spot

Feels like they need a full overhaul of that department with a "Department for Goalie Excellence" like Florida has. Hire a former star goalie with management aspirations, let him build a staff and revamp everything from amateur scouting to skills development. Won't yield results overnight but let's put the building blocks in place so we're never in a position to give a guy like Mrazek a 3 year deal out of desperation.

How long has Steve been with the Leafs? The Leafs need to focus on developing goalies as that seems to be an issue. Last developed goalie was Reimer who was just okay.

Jury still out on the current guys.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that Steve Briere has been named the team’s goaltending coach. The Maple Leafs have also hired Ari Vuori as their Director of European Scouting.

Briere joins the Leafs after serving as the owner and head instructor of Canadian Professional Goalie Schools in addition to his role as goaltender coach with several Junior level teams (the NAHL’s Topeka Roadrunners as well as the USHL’s Fargo Force and Des Moines Buccaneers). Briere also served an assistant at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, helping the Chargers capture the CHA Championship in 2007.

As a player, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native spent time in the USHL, NCAA, ECHL, IHL and AHL in addition to a stint in Great Britain.

I just saw this now and I came to the board right away. Figured a lot of people would be happy. Me included.

Definitely time to reevaluate goaltending altogether. Campbell was fine but not at the pay he'll get. Hopefully they can make a big trade or luck out on someone.

Well it's about frigging time !!! A goalie coach can't make a goalie into a wall, but he should be able to improve his techniques and statistics a little. All Briere seemed to do is make every goalie in our system a little worse.

JMHO.
