Post-Game Talk: Leafs Eliminated.

So, now that the series is over and as I predicted, Florida turned into a squeaky clean team, what are the odds they turn into the most penalized team in the NHL again against Carolina?

What are the chances you talk about how the Leafs couldn't score more than 2 goals in each of the 5 games they played before they were eliminated?

It's doubtful for sure, but I'm sure you'll try every conceivable attempt to re-direct attention from the failures of the team towards the zero calls that were made for both teams.

Austin "zero goals" Matthews. Trade his ass before the NTC kicks in.
But…but “chances”

f*** this guy, he’s just a stamkos. He needs a point, kucherov, and hedman to carry his ass

Don't forget about going 0-2 on the powerplay in this game. For a team "built" on paying for high powered offense. Our powerplay seems to disappear a lot in the playoffs.

Jesus, what can you say?

I genuinely thought this core could take us on multiple deep playoff runs and potentially win it all

More fool me I guess, 40+ years of being a fan and I'm not sure I've ever been this disappointed in the team or organization

We may not have always been good or talented but I always thought the team was giving us it's all, not this team though

I'm feeling a little sick to be honest

I think people need to realize this team is giving its all.

The issue is more playing with consistency, lacking focus at times, poor decision making under pressure (due to system, players, or both?) and maybe not having the proper system in place. Can a coach fix this or is it an issue the players have to try to address, I couldn't tell you.

Fans are (understandably) jaded by so many disappointing exits, but these players obviously care. Their emotions after winning round 1 and devastation after each playoff series loss should show that.

Marner, in particular, is obviously a very passionate player. A poor 2nd round and multiple playoff disappointments doesn't change that.

There are teams that would start whining to the media if they only got two power plays in a game. The Leafs AVERAGE that.

Well when your poweplay runs through chokers like Matthews and Marner then what do you expect. Also have the ghost of John Tavares in front of the net

I predict that Florida will take more penalties in the first two games of round 3 than they did in all of round 2.
Boo-f***ing-hoo

We saw what this team does with more pps in game 1. Squanders them

Matthews can’t score, nah that’s the refs fault
Tavares is useless on the ice, nah that’s the refs fault
Nylander and Marner do their typical not enough, nah that’s the refs fault

Fine by me cause making the playoffs isn't the goal. Winning a cup is the goal. I don't see this core doing it. Too many games where they no show.
sure guess we can win the cup from outside of the playoffs then

You have a hard time accepting accountability and reality.

Like losing 4-1 against the Panthers was the doing of the refs?

And not because the Leafs got 2 or less goals in each of the games.

Incredible actually....

The denial.

I think the main difference between the Leafs and other teams is that other teams realize the officials won't call penalties in certain moments and take full advantage.

Paul Maurice's gameplan was a masterclass of manipulating the officials. He basically told Florida to play dirty all series and then kept holding up his fingers and complaining about the lopsided penalties every post-game interview until eventually the referees end up even (or in Florida's favour) despite them running the Leafs, elbowing, and generally just committing way more penalties in a game. They were the second most penalized team in the entire NHL due to their style of play, but all of a sudden they commit no more than 2 penalties a game after Paul Maurice called them out for 2 games. That little finger trick was smart because the officials were scared of a spotlight being put on them and wanted the penalties to be similar so Paul Maurice wouldn't call them out and be shown all over the TV with his fingers up. If Keefe had any gamesmanship, he would have countered that - but he doesn't. He needs to go. He bet his job on Holl, and that ship has sailed.

The Leafs try to play the game clean and it backfires because the other team is getting an advantage with all their dirty plays. I don't blame the Leafs for trying to play clean because they seem to get borderline penalties called against them and then they just try for a clean game.

Teams like Tampa/Boston/Florida basically dare the referees to make a call in a high pressure game. They manipulate the officials. Stamkos fighting Matthews, last year Matthews being held in OT, the diving, Gudas grabbing the stuck, etc. They know the referees won't call any of those in critical moments, but the Leafs get wary to play the same way because they actually get called. Like Holl's interference in Game 7 whereas Gudas grabbing the stick is clean today.

That's why I prefer to cheer for teams that don't play dirty or take advantage of 'playoff (dirty) hockey'. Colorado was great last year, even with all the dirty plays by other 'veteran teams', they were just so much above everyone else that they would win regardless.

Matthews outscored Point Hedman and Kucherov head to head two series in a row, and also played better defensively. He had a 12 game point streak in the playoffs before injuring his hand again in game 3. It's almost like 1 player doesn't carry a team. A lot of our depth players and coaching are completely useless.

He outplayed the other teams top players in 1 out of 8 series that he’s played in. Congrats.

Give him his $15 mil. Marner too. Not winning with these dummies.

Oh f*** me yea let me forget what a hero he was in round ONE. Not like there is more rounds, don’t blame him cuz he hasn’t even been there

How the f*** does him having a few goals mean carrying the team. He had less goals than kerfoot and Lafferty.

2, outplayed Tampa's best players two seasons in a row, the team that went to 3 straight Stanley Cup finals and won twice.

1 player can't carry a team is my point, but we likely don't beat Tampa without Matthews stepping up either.

Look at Edmonton, they are about to be eliminated by Vegas with two players scoring like prime Gretzky/Lemieux

2 out of 8 then.

25% of the time he’s a top player in a series. Ship his ass and Marner to another team before they ask for $15+mil and cripple this team for another decade by either signing an albatross of a contract or walk away.

Bob had almost 10 goals saved above expected this series. He played completely out of his mind. In a series that was decided by 1 goal in 4/5 games, he was the difference, bar none.

Not to mention, he literally held Jarnkrok's stick to prevent the defender from blocking the GWG and then he gloats about it. He knew the officials weren't calling shit on him and took full advantage. I wish Jarnkrok at least went to the refs to call them out on that play.

I mean - can you even make it more blatant than that?

Lol didn't realize he actually held onto the stick. For a forward, Jarnkrok defended it pretty well and likely would've had his stick on the puck if it was available to him

That picture of Gudas should be in every stall in the dressing room. Look at that f***ing thing every day.

Not Matthews, marner or Tavares of course. They can f*** right off, but whoever replaces them can look at it every day next season and then actually get up for playoff games along with the rest of the retooled roster.

When you only score 2 goals per game, you can't win. The 3 11 million "players" were pathetic. Unfortunately Tavares can't be shipped out, but they need to give Mo the C (Captain Morgan!). Matthews was just pathetic. 0 goals in 5 ganes, wow. Marner is a little, arrogant pu$$y.
