Post-Game Talk: Leafs Eliminated.

Marner is the player to move. Absolutely awful in the playoffs year after year. Not only does he not have the size for playoff hockey, he doesn't have the mentality. Soft, cute plays every damn time.

They will get massive return for him. Either another star player or two very solid players. One forward one D. The D was not good enough.

That is because Bobrovsky made the saves that the losers that the leafs had a net failed to make. That is the difference.
So all credit to other teams goalie and no discredit to our superstar forwards getting paid like they have won 2 cup of missing those chances?

This team has mid 2000 sharks vibes. Just less good.

what a bum that guy is.
Carolina would have smoked this team and Oilers would probably embarrass us. I guess it is his roundabout way of blaming the players because on paper he is correct but obviously this is a mediocre team as constructed. Gimme a break Keefe.
On paper the Leafs do look good enough to win the cup, but on the ice? Not as much and a large part of that has to do with the coach and his decision making.

Real talk is the franchise cursed? Like from the maple leaf gardens sex scandal or something? I would not be surprised

It’s drastic but those two have definitively proven themselves to be at best mediocre playoff performers. Nylander has shown more.
Then again though, watch him turn into the worst version of himself if you sign him 8 years big. I think we are stuck with all three once again next year.
If they re-sign Dubas you’re probably right. If they bring in a new GM it will be to shake things up.

This series once again proves, that having a top heavy lineup does not work. Having players with letter that cannot play physical and have no pushback does not work. Letting players take liberties and cheap shots with your players and have zero response does not work.

Core has to change, Keefe needs to go, we need a #1 Dman...enough is enough

Who is Floridas #1 dman that's better than Rielly?

Pens fan here, but conveying sympathies. I thought the Leafs could do it this year, but you got done in by a really solid goaltender combined with being snakebit and having a dash of typically terrible refereeing thrown in. On the bright side, your team still has a lot of very good talent to work with. I'm curious though, as to who you'd like to see as coach - I think Keefe is as good as gone. Hypothetically, do you think Mike Sullivan would be a good option if he were available? Not sure if coaching trades are allowed, but Pens fans are ready to run him out of town.

They are just not that good. The only time they looked scary good and ready to be a cup winner was in that Covid season and then they blew it, sort of like this panthers series.

We need to re do the blueline on this team. Brodie, Giordano, Holl these guys are on the wrong side of 30 and are getting slower and slower. Florida abused these guys with their speed.

Wrong.

The opportunity was to beat the Panthers and face Carolina in the Conference Finals. If Game 5 wasn't about the series but simply one game needed to win on top of the other, then likewise, craft responses that similarly reflects the precise opportunity missed.

I repeated myself season after season, that typically, we would have to lose in the second round and learn from it; Possibly take another step and lose in the Conference Finals. And then break through a year or two later.

An opportunity to play for the Stanley Cup comes after 12 hard ass wins and we were 7 short. Far from said opportunity.

AND THAT might be part of the undisciplined psyche running through our club. That there's an absence of humility in approaching every shift and period and game like it demands your complete respect.

That's where structure and discipline come in, by automating approach and removing the possibility of accidental arrogance that is well beyond accidental in our top very talented duo.
I’ve watched every Cup for over 50 yrs, and even few before that, and this team wasn’t a Cup contender. I mean in Rnd 2 they didn’t even know who/how to ice a lineup.

He took multiple slapshots tonight. He didnt have a chance to shoot tonight because he wasnt effective.

The best chance was in OT where he panicked and fired low instead of ending it upstairs
Not sure he panicked, he just has zero going on offensively right now. That was a MUST score. Your 'best' player, alone on the goalie in OT.

The better team won. Floridas top players had skill, grit and toughness. Toronto best players had skill. Happy for florida the eastern conference are a huge deal, the stanley cup finals next if they beat carolina

Now we know how the early 2000's Senators teams felt. Loaded with skilled players that didn't translate to playoff success.

We certainly had a front row seat to that. Beating them year after year with gritty teams built for playoff hockey with very, very good goaltenders.
