Post-Game Talk: Leafs Eliminated.

  • Work is still on-going to rebuild the site styling and features. Please report any issues you may experience so we can look into it. Click Here for Updates
if you were excited about signing tavares and were constantly hoping they’d sign one of jt, stamkos, and pietrangelo one year after the rebuild, trading 2 2nds for boyle, not trading jvr and bozak on expiring contracts because they are “own rentals”, signing Marleau, then please don’t talk about a rebuild. You don’t deserve a rebuild and you never had the patience for it anyway.

They are just not that good. The only time they looked scary good and ready to be a cup winner was in that Covid season and then they blew it, sort of like this panthers series.

To be honest I thought we looked the best last season against Tampa from game to game. We lost a bit of cohesiveness as a unit after the trades this year. I think we could comeback better next season with a hopefully healthy Matthews, Knies improving, Woll improving and a better coach.

Now we know how the early 2000's Senators teams felt. Loaded with skilled players that didn't translate to playoff success.

We certainly had a front row seat to that. Beating them year after year with gritty teams built for playoff hockey with very, very good goaltenders.
Wow, great comparison! That team did make the cup finals just a few years later though after some major moves and an adjustment to the roster to make them way meaner.

Edit: And I hated every second of it, but I did enjoy the finals

Every game they start slow and tentative, I don't get it. Where is the balls to the wind enthusiasm? Dead fish. Some thought this team was a contender the last few years. I didn't see it at all. Dubas believed it and cashed in all our draft capital to make it so. I'm not disappointed because I didn't drink the cool-aid. I've said it many times, this team is unlikeable. Get a clear directive from AM and fast. I don't trust Dubas to make the right call on these big decisions.
When Mitch and AM didn't give us full term even though they got every penny they wanted, I knew we were in big trouble and now we are.

No way, he should be out. Ain't nothing special about him. I'd be furious if Shanny re-signs him. Get ready for more of this if they do.
He brought enough players in at the deadline to get shit done. It’s on the core 4 and the coach. That’s all. Not his fault they didn’t show up again.

Three, if not four years in a row now.

Obviously I want the team to win a cup, but I don't even like actually need it, you know what I mean? Some of my greatest memories are just long playoff runs between 1993 and 2004. If we can't win a cup, can't we at least just have a 6-year span where we win like 12 or 13 playoff series? When you bottom out and rebuild properly with high picks, and build a mature team with this much firepower and then mortgage the future making smart deadline deals, is that too much to ask? Can't we just win a few series here and there? Instead of just one ever?

Not going to lie I don't even think Florida is that well coached.. they sat back a lot with leads in second half of games in this series, relying on some luck and the Leafs' beating themselves to win this series.

If they do that against Carolina they'll be in trouble.

Canes are going to sweep panthers. They hound puck like crazy, they don't have cute BS in their plays.

Canes still continue to play amazing well down Svechnikov and patches.

Hawks just won the lottery.
We did too, but a draft lottery ain't like winning a cup, not that I'd know either. Those perv ushers that used to work at the Gardens cursed this franchise, at least according to my Flyers loving buddy who of course also happens to hate the leafs

They won 2 games in OT and were outplayed by a Leafs team whose top players didnt really show most nights.

I thought the pinching D gave us fits in period 1, game 1. After that, most of the issues were self inflicted without pressure.

there is a 100% chance that if that doesn't happen I am out as a Leafs fan.

Cant keep on supporting incompetence, hubris and lack of accountability. life is short would rather invest time and money in something else
Go ahead! Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. You and keefe. I’ll stay here with dubas and MO

This type of drama will likely not reverse history...
Nope, I thought it was borderline as it happened, but when I saw the replay it thought it was a penalty.
I knew exactly what Gudas was going to do, what else can he do, and if I knew, the ref should have known as well and kept his eye on it. It would be hard to call, but it was definitely holding the stick and it impacted the play.

I get what you're saying, but, at least Yzerman, Ovechkin and Stamkos all went out on their shield in every single playoff round that they lost before they won their cups. Those guys never ever had a series where they didn't score a goal in their early twenties.
Not only that, but Tampa Bay managed to win two cups with stamkos being a complete playoff anchor for a decade.

That's how smartly they built the rest of the team around him.

That, and some mild cap circumvention...
