You could say that they deserved better, you can say that Florida got the bounces and calls, you can say that Bobrovsky stole the series, all of that is true. Just like it was true against Montréal, Columbus, and Tampa last year.
At some point, you just have to get the job done and they didn't. Offence went dry when it mattered, just like in those past series (2G or less in 7 straight games). Defence coughed up the puck at bad times, just like those past series. Special teams stopped working, just like in those past series (remember the 2PPs in the 1st tonight?). Effort was lacking at key points, just like in those past series.
Nothing has changed with this core, with this team. One can only hope that the illusion of getting beat down by the Lightning and fluking out a series win does not serve use an excuse for the drastic changes needed this off-season.
