It was just one game and I'm sure MTL can play better but I have to say I wasn't impressed by them at all.

This is going to be by far the weirdest season ever for us. We could go through the entire season and two rounds of the playoffs without playing a single game against a top 10 NHL team.

Weird!

I’ll take the win but I didn’t love some of the classic Leafs bad habits that were peeking through.

Keefe needs to drill it in them to start on time and to not let up the pressure when closing out the game. Get them playoff ready by making it part of their identity

Agree I am getting tired of the throw it up the middle from the back of the net and having an opposing player grab the puck and rifle one off or set up another player. Andersen can’t always bail us out.

What did they do in the offseason to improve because they sucked last year. Bottom dwellers...
In all honesty, a lot has changed. Suzuki and Kotkaniemi “broke out” during the playoffs, Romanov is looking good in his 1st year with us, we added a solid backup for the first time since Halak in Allen. We traded for a need with Anderson and signed Vancity-destroyer Toffoli as a FA. We did a lot in the off-season. Obviously we’re not top contenders or anything of the like (we desperately lack top-end talent), but it’s finally fun to watch Hab games - even though we struggle big time against you guys!

Going back and watching the highlights, Mitch had the defensive play of the game blocking Danault's shot point blank while Freddy was on the ice.

If that shot goes in, it's 2-0 Montreal and who knows how that game ends up.

Mitch doesnt get enough credit for how he can impact the game outside of scoring.

Nothing worth getting worked up about to be honest.

Accidently on purpose.. knowing who it was, pretty sure that was a purposeful elbow to the back of the head.... we all know Shea eats puppies for breakfast ... the Boogieman's kids look under their bed for Shea Webber...

Is it just me or was Engvall notably physical last night? I noticed a couple pretty good hits.

With his speed if he plays with some edge and even if the scoring doesn't come he can really make an impact.

Yep he was crunching some little Habbies last night. It's a role no one on the Leafs currently has, locomotive driver... toot toot ... here comes Pierre down the rail road tracks.... Clutterbuck made a career out of hitting and playing bottom 6 minutes. He is listed as 6'5 214 lbs ... if he is 214 lbs... he has to be 225 to 235lbs ... I'm 185lbs...

It seemed to fire JT up so it worked out but that could have been a lot worse, Weber is good at getting away with that kind of stuff.

The great ones often are Chara, Pronger, Messier all dirty POS but yet they are all considered some of the all time greats. Weber is a dirty piece of gear but he is one of the best over last 15 -20 years.

Pronger hitting Bieber from behind... dude looks pretty happy...

Montreal played scared. They look way better against other teams but it was quite obvious that their focus was on Toronto's stars more than playing their game.

After Tavares kicked his feet out from under him, what should he have done?

Long time lurker.. first time posting.

Leafs looked really good last night, I can't believe we have a proper PP system now. It's really a thing of beauty, send my regards to Vancouver for giving us the assistant coach. I think we showed tonight that when we play at our best we are on a whole different tier than the rest of the Canadian division

weight distribution is different when you’re actually in good shape.

I'm sure MTL can play better against us as well, looking forward to the next game for sure. Then we have three against Ottawa, this schedule is a peach I tall ya. A Peach!!:laugh:

Big Win for the Leafs getting some offense from some unlikely characters with players like Dermott, Holl, and Mikheyev all going about a calendar year between goals.

Montreal is the only team really capable of challenging the Leafs for the Div lead and now Leafs have taken 2 of the first 10 games.

Do not remember the play but nhl.com has the line on Mitch as:
