Outside of Komisarek, who are our other buyout candidates?

Kulemin? Phaneuf? JML? Grabovski?

everyone else is off the books or too cheap to buy out

We either buy out Komi or simply don't buy anyone out. Burke has done good in terms on not leaving the team with lingering/overpaid contracts that we don't "need" to buy anyone out.

Are we able to use the buy out at any point in the CBA or does the initial buy out only apply to the end of this season? If we are able to hold onto it, all the more valuable that card can/will be for us in the future.

We have to use both of them by the summer of 2013-2014. Like you said right now we don't need to use any.

Why would anyone trade for him, if he goes unclaimed?

He either gets bought out or plays for the Marlies...I guess.

He cant get an compliance buyout and if the leafs deal him at half his salary it likely could be worth something to a team.... The waivers were probably to get him off the books for free.

Or maybe Nonis didn't want to eat any salary at all and just decided to get rid him.

he can't just get rid of him.

if he doesn't trade him along with salary, or if a team doesn't claim him on waivers, the leafs are eating his salary anyways.

The Leafs don't want him anymore.

you put him on waivers with the hopes that a team picks up his full contact.

Likely nobody will bite, but its worth the attempt

At that point you start offering trades to teams where you east a portion if his salary. At 4.5 million nobody wants him, but maybe at 2.5 for one year a team will bite. If that happens the leafs free up some salary, clear a roster spot, and add a pick.

Worst case, you can't make a deal with anyone, so you either buy him out our put him on the bus.

Burke made good trades, but he was horrific on the FA market. horrific.
It was more unlucky than anything. In hindsight his UFA's yes have been bad but had they all panned out, no one would really be complaining all that much.It happens

Alright wasn't clear on the rules there.
I was thinking they would set something up with Lu before just buying him out.. to make sure he is gonna resign.

Also didn't the Sens do the buyout and resign thing with a big players a while back (Alfredson maybe).

With Afredsson, there were option years that were declined which carried a payment, he was then resigned.

Am I halucinating or is Orr actually going to make this team?

I hope he does. He was effective in the enforcer/shutdown role in NYR.

He was actually put on to protect leads along with his linemates. Hopefully he can return back to that form. BTW, the NE division is very tough, we are fortunate to have Orr.

Only possibility of being picked up is by Vancouver, but can they even afford him? and whenever Kesler returns where the hell do they put Connolly? Press box? Honestly they have no 2nd line centre accept maybe Higgins. It'd be worth a shot.

I don't want TO to buy Tiny Tim out it is just a dark cloud we don't need lol. 4.5m for a dumby, great move Burke.

Colton Orr, Mike Brown, Dion Phaneuf, Mike Komisarek, and....Leo Komorov? Maybe Kadri as the skilled feisty guy? Or hell throw Grabo in there if in Montreal.

Maybe that can be our fight night line up when we want to have those classic line brawls.

Would rather kessel step in than watch Komi get mashed. Anyways, hope Fraser can get a few games in when we play Boston, he is one tough sob to go along with Orr and Brown.

So got rid of L.A. and C. Now only K left

So, when are we getting rid of Kessel/Kadri/Kulemin? :sarcasm:

But they only had Orr. We have Brown who can do more than fight. I like Orr but he is a waste of space.. I'd just do what everyone else is suggesting and just sub him in against teams like Boston, Montreal, Philly etc and keep Brown there. We also have Komarov who is annoying and Komi is kind of the same but more of an idiot.

Orr has a date with destiny(Carey Price).

This team needs grit and muscle to protect the likes of Kessel and Kadri. Not to mention we still need to send a message to Montreal.Guys like Orr and Fraser serve a purpose.
