If he clears waivers, you do a deal similar to lombardi where you east some salary in exchange for a pick.

He played on the third and fourth lines for the majority of last year.
He's a good player, he just wasn't given a fair opportunity here. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd prefer to open up spots for youngins.
No one will be bought out this year.
Komi probably gets amnestied next year.
You save the other one in case of a disaster... Like JML or Grabo losing their game completely or something. We really don't have many bad contracts left, and the ones we do are expiring at the end of the season.
Could they possibly save one and if they get Louongo buy him out and resign to a better contract?

This just further highlights how Burke overpaid on each and every signing under his tenure. (except for Kule's expiring contract I'd say).
Why buy out a player who is an UFA after the season?
Burke made good trades, but he was horrific on the FA market. horrific.
I like Connolly, I really do. Fan of his when he was in Buffalo....but, no, the conditions are just against him at this point. I wish he did better last year but he was relegated to the 3rd/4th lines for a reason (I would hope)
MacArthur for 1.1 isnt too bad
What are the rules surrounding this waiver of Tim Connolly.
I keep hearing that it will go something like Lombardi, where they trade him if he goes un-claimed.
Why even put him on waivers in the first place.
What is the purpose of this move? Can't they just trade him without waiving him first?

Then Luongo could sign where he wants ... Florida and live off the MLSE money.
You cannot re-sign a player you buy-out in the same year.
Why would anyone trade for him, if he goes unclaimed?
He either gets bought out or plays for the Marlies...I guess.

Looks like Nonis is taking Leafs worst +/- players in ascending order and checking them off his list and off the team in order.
Leafs WORST +/- players for 2011-12;
Matthew Lombardi @ -19
Tim Connolly @ -14
John-Michael Liles @ -14
Dave Steckel @ -14
Mike Komisarek @ -13
Carlyle wants to instill a better defensive system so it only makes sense you get rid of your greatest defensive liabilities as the first step.
I really thought he would at least return a 3rd round pick.

I could see the Canucks giving up a 3rd if the Leafs ate half of his contract.
