If he clears waivers, you do a deal similar to lombardi where you east some salary in exchange for a pick.

He played on the third and fourth lines for the majority of last year.

He's a good player, he just wasn't given a fair opportunity here. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd prefer to open up spots for youngins.

I like Connolly, I really do. Fan of his when he was in Buffalo....but, no, the conditions are just against him at this point. I wish he did better last year but he was relegated to the 3rd/4th lines for a reason (I would hope)

No one will be bought out this year.

Komi probably gets amnestied next year.

You save the other one in case of a disaster... Like JML or Grabo losing their game completely or something. We really don't have many bad contracts left, and the ones we do are expiring at the end of the season.

Could they possibly save one and if they get Louongo buy him out and resign to a better contract?

What are the rules surrounding this waiver of Tim Connolly.

I keep hearing that it will go something like Lombardi, where they trade him if he goes un-claimed.

Why even put him on waivers in the first place.

What is the purpose of this move? Can't they just trade him without waiving him first?

Simple. He didn't make the roster and they have some flexibility on what to do with him. His prorated contract for 48 games is probably not a killer for a team that might need a vet with some scoring touch so he is probably tradeable in that regard. I am hoping they send him home if they don't trade him. I don't want him taking up roster spots in the AHL.

He started with Phil and Lupes. Played well (lest we forget the ass-pass )

Got injured. Came back, never got another chance.

Why would anyone trade for him, if he goes unclaimed?

He either gets bought out or plays for the Marlies...I guess.

Roster numbers. Cut bait and fish.

Then Luongo could sign where he wants ... Florida and live off the MLSE money.

You cannot re-sign a player you buy-out in the same year.

Alright wasn't clear on the rules there.
I was thinking they would set something up with Lu before just buying him out.. to make sure he is gonna resign.

Also didn't the Sens do the buyout and resign thing with a big players a while back (Alfredson maybe).

"You're only as strong as your weakest link"

Looks like Nonis is taking Leafs worst +/- players in ascending order and checking them off his list and off the team in order.

Leafs WORST +/- players for 2011-12;

Matthew Lombardi @ -19
Tim Connolly @ -14
John-Michael Liles @ -14
Dave Steckel @ -14
Mike Komisarek @ -13

Carlyle wants to instill a better defensive system so it only makes sense you get rid of your greatest defensive liabilities as the first step.

If nonis is basing his moves on +/-, we're in big trouble.

I really thought he would at least return a 3rd round pick.

It might have to do with the Leafs wanting to eat some salary or not. If I'm not mistaken we could eat up to 3 million bucks for one contract and up to 5 million total in a trade. Hard to imagine we could't get something for him but thats up to Nonis and maybe his value is that bad.
