People are so dramatic. At some point soon Marner is going to go on a streak that sees him get 12 points in 5 games or something like that, and then people will have to go back complaining about something else they don't like about him.
Unironically, that's the entire point of this site...unless you prefer an entire message board full of delusional kool-aid drinkers??

Maybe, but who can tell?

Just because they play a rougher style doesn't mean they have more "will".

This is my annoyance with this argument. The players clearly care, they clearly try, but people think they don't try enough... but how does anyone know how much they are trying?

I'm not saying they don't care, but some players are just more rugged than others.

I'm a Boston fan but I would use the exact comparison with Pastrnak and DeBrusk
to the Avs pair.

Considering this is literal playoff hockey, yes that'd be nice Mo

Well if they are trying their hardest and can’t get it done, than perhaps they just aren’t good enough

Keefe needs to do something here because this team isn't doing well(even with some of our wins we rely too much on skill alone).

Reaves shouldn't be playing at all(or rarely)...The guy doesn't do anything positive on the ice(loses almost every puck battle, can't pass or make basic plays, etc). That experiment with Mitch and Auston has to end as i don't think they have as much chemistry as Keefe thinks. Knies is being used as some grinder which is such a waste. Our d is absolutely awful. I keep watching Brodie and Klingberg fall down and giving the puck to the other team...And yes that point about LA being big and strong and us about skill is also an issue(that's more Treliving' issue to solve).

Pretty sure they signed Reaves so he can help take the heat off when the higher paid guys suck about the same amount in comparison to paycheque. Smart thinking by management but need to get the ice tilted consistently by the top guys; only on a rare night should they get outplayed but it seems to happen at least 50% of the time. I remember watching Zetterberg and Datsyuk play and night after night those guys outplayed their opponents whether a win or a loss. Criticism needs to be top down. Best players gotta be better. .

You guys want players who will show up in the playoffs but then write them off after 10 games of regular season hockey. Bertuzzi played hurt for the majority of those as well btw.

Bertuzzi is a dress and forget player. Focus on other things.
Not sure if anyone is writing them off, but sure, doing that is obviously premature. That said, they've played like garbage for much of the season despite a soft schedule ( even worse than their 12th overall place in the standings would suggest) so it's understandable people are pissed at them. I feel especially sorry for the people that actually paid lots of good money to go watch that stinker in person, just awful.

Many people were talking as if they expected us to challenge for the Presidents Trophy this season along with getting 120 points from Marner. I wasn't one of them mind you but still, I can't help but feel a bit sorry for those people today.

And just because they look like they're not trying hard some nights, that doesn't mean that they are. Not sure where you're getting this "they clearly try" stuff.

same coach, same core, same goalies, slightly different D .....expect the team to play differently?

I think they need a DeRozan type move

It should have been Nylander last year while he still had term and now I do think its Marner ... unfortunately

Wait two years and let him walk?

Exactly! This guy seems to think this team is super elite or WE and keeps making excuses for losing but that's the thing - if these guys are so talented and the are trying so hard, why do they keep losing? :dunno:

I'm not even talking about this season, it's more about how many times we've shown up but not competed in deciding games on our way to a 1-7 playoff series record.

I was suggesting we should see what we could get for Marner after losing to MTL when he was still under contract for 4 more years, holy crap did I ever piss off a bunch of people. But he's a 1st team all-star, you never win a trade like that blah blah blah. At that point, we could obviously gotten back a TON for him, hard to see how things could have turned out worse than they have to this point anyway. Too late now, we're stuck with this core now, it's just a question of whether or not we lose Nylander for nothing in the summer

I don't want to "win a trade", I want to go deep in the playoffs. Still waiting ...

There’s no question in my mind theLeafs give a solid effort, but when they’re in games like last night, or the playoffs, they can’t dictate the outcome.

 He is pretty bad.
Last night was one of those nights where he needed to inject some life into the team and building but did nothing
-7 with 0 GF while on the ice with light matchups. Not great

I still think that they should play Gregor Kampf and Jarnkrok together. Play them heavy d zone starts and get the first line rolling offensively.

Marner is a great a player to get value you trade value and its not personal. i.e. derozan

Its what the team (maybe locker room) needs like you said to win when it counts

MacKinnon tried his hardest for a long time, but couldn't get it done.

I don't think he only tried hard one year...

Did the Leafs try harder in series one last year compared to all other years?

Reaves is a liability out there

I don't understand how anyone thinks it's a good idea or how they can't see how bad he is. I'm sure he's a great guy and fun to be around but it's embarrassing to think they need to troll around a terrible player that isn't doing anything because he might be able to throw a punch once every 20 games. He can't even f***ing skate...

We have to be one of the few teams carrying a useless player and handicapping our lineup for that useless player when there are multiple players ten times the player he is to help.

What a shit game, bag skate then and sit Domi for a game or two.
Wasn’t high on Domi signing, but didn’t expect him to be this bad, he’s not alone, plenty of players league wide are under performing big time. Not very “professional” for being professionals………
