coaching change? how about an president change and MM trade?

something has always been rotten with this core- we know its not reilly or JT.
And it ain't Marner either, Mitch for all of his faults has historically been a name on the front kind of guy, as long as the other guys are too.

Problem is of course, and believe me I'd tell you, but it can't be said aloud.

If only we could afford some better players:oops:

I wish. Our guys are more concerned about cashing in as much as possible. They don’t mind that we have to surround them with bargain bin garbage as long as the $$$ keep coming in. Really shows what their priorities are.

As much as I dislike that little diver Stutzle, he ain’t wrong.

You guys want players who will show up in the playoffs but then write them off after 10 games of regular season hockey. Bertuzzi played hurt for the majority of those as well btw.

Bertuzzi is a dress and forget player. Focus on other things.
Dress and forget...ya mean he is the second coming of Claude Provost, Ron Stewart, zJim Pappin, Dick Duff.
It seems like dress and forget means consistently strong on d part of the game a chipping in on the O side. Sorry, but Bert does neither side well yet.

Drew Doughty issues a warning to the Leafs before Tuesday's game; and it worked like a charm

The Maple Leafs were absolutely embarrassed on home ice last night by the Los Angeles Kings, there's just no two ways about it. While the Leafs outshot the Kings 30-27 in the contest, it was the Kings who dictated the pace of play, forced more turnovers and capitalized on their chances. At one point, the fans in attendance were even booing the Leafs no home ice.

The Kings came into Toronto with the right mindset, to capitalize on a team who had their guard down upon returning home after a successful 5-game road trip. The Kings had their way with the Leafs and it may have all started with some pre-game comments made by London, Ontario native Drew Doughty.

Prior to the start of last night's game, Doughty had met with the media in Toronto to discuss the game. Among the questions he was asked was about the Leafs' top players adapting to new penalty killing roles. He was probed for comments about Matthews and Nylander being added to the PK in hopes of creating some scoring chances while down a man. Doughty, completely unphased, took the opportunity to send a message to the Leafs, rather than answering the question.

"You gotta be aware... but my job doesn't change. If they're in the lane I'm going to shoot just as hard. Sometimes it's good to waste a puck off someone's shin pad. It's part of the game."

Reaves is a liability out there
And so are Matthews, Marner, and any other players when they're NOT WORKING HARD ENOUGH !!!

If Matthews and Marner claim they are working hard, then their collective cap hits are way too much !!!

Domi is a liability when he takes multiple stupid selfish penalties. He needs to take a seat in the press box for a game or two. He's hurting our Leafs more than he is helping them. He is on his 5th NHL team for a reason. I've seen enough of this classless player already.

I'd rather have Bunting than Domi and Reaves at this point. Hall is not that much of a downgrade defensively from what I've seen from Klingberg thus far.

All those players, all of them did the right thing, they're all going to end their careers as wealthy young men. They're all going to retire comfortably wherever they want to be in the world and may even end up as champions one day, because they all decided that team and front of the jersey mattered.

Not a bad bargain

Keefe, Marner discuss the top line's lack of production at 5-on-5

Maple Leafs forwards Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews have just three combined 5v5 goals and seven combined 5v5 points so far this season. Matthews is ranked third among forwards in expected goals at 5-on-5, but Marner is near the bottom of the list, ranking 169th, well behind the likes of John Tavares, William Nylander, Calle Jarnkrok and even Matthew Knies.

Matthews has scored just one goal since his back-to-back hat tricks to start the season, and has not scored a 5-on-5 goal since game two against the Minnesota Wild and Marner has not been any better, recording just 2 goals on the season, with his only 5-on-5 goal coming against the Dallas Stars last week.

Last night against the LA Kings, the Leafs were dominated in all aspects of the game and struggled to generate any sustained offensive pressure or successive scoring chances leading to an eventual 4-1 loss on home ice. Following the loss, Marner was asked about the struggles he and Matthews are experiencing at 5-on-5 and admitted he isn't doing enough to help Matthews get open.

"I think I need to be more of a threat of a shooter. Be a little more selfish in those areas so it opens up Auston more. We have to have trust in our game. When we're going well, we're getting in on the forecheck, we're stripping pucks. We've had moments of that throughout the season, but not enough and have to be better and we will be." - Marner on he and Matthews' his shaky start at 5-on-5

I like that he’s taking accountability at least.

I thought he never took ownership when he plays poorly? Maybe he was misquoted.

Deserved every bit of that loss. Credit to LAK, they came prepared to strike a team coming home from a long road trip, and they did just that. We lost every puck battle, and ultimately didn't show any passion or fight.

I am not going to read too much into that game TBH. First home game after a long roady is for whatever reason a scheduled loss for a lot of teams. We seem to be no different.

It's a long season, and you aren't going to be at your best every night. I wish every game meant something to these guys, but unfortunately that just isn't the case. They'll need to find something tomorrow or this could be a 3-5 game slide in no time.

Shake it off and come ready to play the B's tmw

I ain't eating that before I go to bed...lol.

MacKinnon and Landeskog have a ton of "will", lots more than Matthews and Marner.
The issue is not with the core (minority opinion) more so what is built around them.

They haven’t been perfect but outside of the habs series M&M have been good - are they also supposed to do 3rd and 4th liners job?

The problem is the coaching. Anyone think this core/team would yield the same results with Jon Cooper as the hc?

I don't understand how anyone thinks it's a good idea or how they can't see how bad he is. I'm sure he's a great guy and fun to be around but it's embarrassing to think they need to troll around a terrible player that isn't doing anything because he might be able to throw a punch once every 20 games. He can't even f***ing skate...

We have to be one of the few teams carrying a useless player and handicapping our lineup for that useless player when there are multiple players ten times the player he is to help.
Did I hear right that the Kings 3rd and 4th line both get 12min+ per night? What a massive difference in time allotted and energy staying uptempo all game, along with all players feeling part of the team. Playing 3-8 min a night cant be good for morale. Kings building their team like Vegas with no super duper stars but a bunch of very good players is looking more and more appealing as a template. I just get this feeling we are keeping the band together until they retire.
