Post-Game Talk: Leafs begin season with a WIN. 6-5 in the shootout

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
In terms of the new additions:

- Klingberg is as advertised ... nice to not have just Rielly as a quality offensive guy on the back end
- Bertuzzi will be a great addition, lots of good looks and he should be a nice gritty piece as he settles in and gets his offense going
- I didn't mind Domi until that giveaway in the third .. but I still am encouraged as him in a secondary scoring role which was solely needed last year. His puck movement will work well with JT and Nylander
- Knies almost had a beauty in OT .. otherwise there was some good effort out there. Wasn't really insulated being paired with Minten
- Minten was solid .. nothing particular good or bad.
- Reaves set the tone with some physicality and a fight. He'll have value if he's not overused.
-
Bertuzzi looked better in that game than he did in any pre-season game... other than the first period, that was a dead zone for the entire team.

Yeah Minten will need to turn it up a notch, he was not pre-season Minten tonight. He was quiet with a couple good moments, but he also had some really bad moments. It's only one game though so we'll see. But if he doesn't keep up with the pace, Leafs might need a bit of a shake up there.

Wild game, loose as expected. We deserved the win.

Klingberg is a passing machine, he is adding a great dimension, as long as he can play some D, will be a nice add.

Bertuzzi feisty on that line, looks a perfect compliment.

Reaves quite good, easily a 4th liner if he plays like that, line was good.

Domi had some good and bad.

Gregor was effective.

Our adds were noticeable for sure.

Next.
I actually think we'd look more balanced if we switch the LW around.

Also, we'll need a 3rd line centre before too long.

And defense at the deadline.

I think it hurt Knies ability to make an impact too .. Knies with Tavares might have caused more havoc.

That being said Knies looked a bit flat too.

Maybe it's the first game jitters.

He's a hero for it tonight but could easily be the goat.

I mean offensive zone draw with 5 minutes left and you need 2 goals ... might as well roll the dice for a goal
Broadcast was giving Boucher credit for the early pull, but I feel like Keefe has done that a number of times before when down by 2.

Wow I can’t believe Samsonov stopped all 3 shootout attempts after the night he had!

Kudos to the buds not quitting despite being down 2 goals twice. Lots to cleanup but suck it MTL!
One post, one no shot, one save. Lol

Go Leafs Go!

New season, hoping for new and better shit!

I actually really like it. You've got nothing to lose at that point, gives your best players a chance to score and also give them some rest to have some gas in the tank to get another (and they did).

We got lazy after massively outshooting them in the 2nd. Habs wanted more it and almost pulled it off. Matthews. Just WOW! Samsonov looked way off all night long. Even on the shootout he was standing straight up, legs wide open, and stick a foot off of the ice when the Habs were close in and in the shooting zone. I don't get it. Oh well. We'll take it and move on to the next one.

Found a way to win

Goaltending and defense were pretty suspect like they can be early in the season but the boys never gave up and came through when it mattered

Proud of them, plenty to work on but give me the team than never stops fighting and I'll back them to hell and back
