Post-Game Talk: Leafs begin season with a WIN. 6-5 in the shootout

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The Leafs are nothing if not entertaining.
AM looks like he's got his scoring touch back, so there's that too.

But ugh, that was ugly. No way we should have even had to go to OT/SO. This is a team we should be hell bent on beating up & burying every time we face them.

That game was a bit more adventurous than I typically prefer them to be. Aside from that, I'll absolutely take a Matthews hatty, a Gregor goal and Klingberg's assists in the Leaf debut for each and a victory over a divisional rival led by the Core Fo(u)rwards.

This type of game doesn't scream 'we're ready for playoffs' lol, but a W is a W.

*As stated previously, this D will not win you 4 rounds
*Sammy needs to get off the vodka
*Knies looked more like Chad Kilger than Chris Kreider
*Minten ain't ready, no sense trying to force it
*Hoping we continue to see the Matthews of two years ago, I missed that dude
*If Mitchy could find a way to start a season on time it'd be real swell
*Under any circumstance, you always enjoy the hell out of beating the Habs

For all the questions and unknowns with this team, so much of the team will come down to which version of Matthews we get. The difference between "good top line centre" last year, and "indisputable top 2 player in the league" from two years ago is staggering.

Really looks like he's got his mojo back. Such a good sign.

Lol - pretty much what I expected.

Poor first period. No legs, bad ice and rust.
Then dominated 90% of the game. Mistakes just went in. Cream rises to the top.

Good:
Matthews release - looks healthy
4th line was great
More physical team didn’t back down
Willy looks elite
Klingberg looked good on the PP

Concerns:
Lines 2/3 lacked chemistry
Bertuzzi is not a match on the top line either.
Klingberg/Brodie/Gio/Lily all had rough nights in the d zone.
Break outs in general were poor
Sammy looks out of shape and was swimming in crease even when they didn’t score
