There's a clear portion, and you can even say a big portion, of this fanbase that definitely doesn't show up when the team is winning, especially in recent years for whatever reason. They only show up when there's a loss to complain. And part of it is venting and being frustrated... everyone can use that outlet to complain and vent I suppose. Nothing wrong with that.

I think there are many things to discuss as a fan when they are winning though. Heck you can even complain about how Marner and Ritchie were the only 2 players without a point yesterday.
Yeah I mentioned Marner earlier.
Myself I don't keep track of who comes and goes. I assume most come here daily like I do.
It would be interesting to see how many different people post after a win vs a loss instead of just looking at page/post counts.

** Even though this game ended so late it will surpass the PGT from the Pens loss. Don't see the PGT from the Islander game to compare.
Perhaps this whole thing is overblown a bit?

The other part if being unable to admit being wrong because we all know many of those fans want to see them lose for their own ego and that can only happen with a loss.

Fandom is always so damn negative about everything, especially around here. It'd be nice to see those faces throw up a cheer comment with a big win like that.

Yeah, I can understand being negative at times, the posters who are only negative though I just don't see the point. It's like they want to just make everyone else miserable.

That boarding penalty by Matthews.

Although not a particularly violent hit, it was solid hit into the boards.

Some fans will like that, because it was good!

Perhaps Matthews was trying to impress his bud, Bieber the beaver, who was in the stands with the other celebrities.

Matthews pancaked that Kings playa so hard, the announcers started talking about the time Bieber was accosted aggressively in the corner by Chris Pronger in a charity game. That incident, nothing charitable about that.

Did witnesses and Bieber fans cried out loud?

Possibly.

:naughty:
Matthews had a few solid hits last night. But then I checked the official NHL stats, and … he was credited with zero hits. Who counts these things?

I’m curious to see how the lines shake up if Kampf is out. I wonder if Keefe will use the new 3rd line in defensive zone face offs like he did with Kampf.

Credit Wayner for taking control of that game when it was still up in da air .. and soup keeps making da required saves .. but a total team win for sure .. up and down lineup guys did their jobs .. Wayner should have been 1st star .. it was obvious

I feel like a lot of posters aren't real fans. Even I get pissed off from time to time with some of our players and efforts on some nights, but when they play good hockey (the past month or so) you love to see it as a fan and you can show appreciation for it. When the guys play with effort like that, how can you not love it. As a fan of any sports team, there's always ups/downs but you stick with your team through it and you especially enjoy the ups. The fact that a lot of posters don't enjoy the good times or never say anything positive, just constantly shit on the guys makes me seriously question whether or not they are actually fans.

I sat through and watched every game of the Toskala era, no matter how brutal it was to see that shit. So when it comes to times like this when the team shows promise, it's the most exciting time as a fan. I feel like any real fan would be jumping with joy for games/moments like this, but for whatever reason they don't get the support when they win or show up with maximum effort. But they'll get shit on relentlessly, if they lose.

Regardless, I am very pleased with the entire team since the first game with the Pens. We lost to the Canes as well after that but the Canes game you could tell the guys cared. They wanted to win, they wanted to play as a team and they wanted to compete. They felt shame for their effort, and that's what you want. Guys who actually care about their performance/effort. I said it before, but that loss to the Pens earlier in the season was the best thing to happen to this team. They had a serious gut check and have responded beautifully to it. Tavares/Marner have been absolutely phenomenal since that game, JT IMO is our best player so far this year. Nylander has been really good as well, but JT has elevated his game this year.

i think some fans have been burned by the Leafs so much that they have a hard time believing in them. They feel it’s a matter of time before they let you down again. They don’t want to fall for it.

I think if the Leafs can win a playoff round this year the negativity will not be as bad. Of course there will always be negativity but a playoff win can help start to erase the past.

That's why you need to watch the games to give informed opinions, too many people follow the NHL by stats and standings and stats don't tell you everything and as in this case are not even right.

Fell asleep after the 2nd period after the game was well in hand.

Great overall effort. Loved hearing the soup chants in their barn.

Hopefully Kampf won't be out for too long, he's been a big part of our success.

Not going to be a popular sentiment but Nylander is either hurt or starting to mail it in again.
He was so good in the playoffs and the start of the season, I'm thinking he's hurt.
Yep this is his main issue .. I can't believe it .. it is like he goes into hiding for stretches .. but he was our best player in playoffs and to start this season .. to me he and Matty are our only 5 tools players .. they can fly, they can shoot, they can make plays, they can play down low games and they can take/receive a hit .. Mitch is 3 out of 5 tools (can't shoot, can't fly) .. JT is 4 out of 5 tools (can't fly)

pure and utter domination. Aside from a couple extended shifts in their own end, this was a 60 minute beat down. With 11 forwards for roughly 58 mins of the game, I think having 3-4 shifts in your own end is more than acceptable. The 2 PP goals against were kind of meh. We lost our most valuable PK"er early on, and the Kings really weren't able to move the puck at all for the most part. Durzi (go figure) made 2 really strong reads at the blue that went in. Wouldn't look too much into it.

positives:
-Kerfoot was absolutely flying out there yesterday, he looked outstanding.
-Campbell made 2 really strong saves early on in tie game/ 1 goal lead territory that were vastly underappreciated. He gave us that opportunity to blow them out. We were the better team the entire game, but you still need your tendy to come up with big saves from time to time. He did just that
-Sandin with the 3 point night
-Bunting/Matthews/Marner was all over the puck. Should have had 4 goals. Liking the look of that line alot
-Simmer, I have no clue what he did this offseason but his hands are back to vintage simmonds level. It's been this way all year. He's toe dragged guys with ease all year. That dish to Engvall on the 2nd goal (chef's kiss)
-Ritchie, keep doing what you're doing big fella. The puck will start going in soon enough. You can tell he is playing with some jam in his last 10-15 games. I'm really pulling for him. He gets a lot of unwarranted abuse IMO. He's been playing really well in the complimentary role

Negatives:
Hard to draw any negatives from this performance I gotta be honest. I think the only play that pissed me off all game was when Holl got absolutely man handled by a much shorter Trevor Moore on a 50:50 play that directly lead to LA's best chance in the game. I was not very happy then, but other then that Holl played fine.

I donno, what is not to like about this team right now? They win games with ease, and they deserve every game they win. I guess it pays off to play the right way after all :thumbu:

Thats a possibility but nylander also takes Keefes word to heart very seriously....so he's prolly still reeling in from the last commentary because it seemed to have given a nosedive right after. It always happened in the AHL, and then he gets better again.

Isn't it the arena themselves? There's a few that are notorious for inflating hits and shot counts.
Hits, giveaways, takeaways, and even shots can be very subjective. I've seen times when a team averages twenty hits at home and ten on the road, and I doubt the players play that much differently.

For those kinds of stats, I tend to look mainly at away performance, as that provides a reasonable average from 31 rinks, and eliminates home-town bias.

So true. There are so many cases where the stats fail completely, for single games they're mostly a waste of time IMHO.

Shots are pretty easy.

Hits are much more of a judgement call.

Giveaways/Takeaways are entirely junk as nobody actually knows what the definition of either is.
