Onuska is actually a pretty good goalie.......funny thing is though, I played lots of hockey and used to hang out with Nick Chenard's Dad. When I heard his kid was backing up last night....I was like WTF???? They are Windsor (Tecumseh) guys.....and now Windsor's current goalie is back up or starter tonight......

Glad they figured out the paperwork and made whatever phoce calls they needed to call up Woll.

Starting with some nobody would have been a bad look. But I know for sure that they would have done it rather than force Samsonov to start again.

Don’t forget, Dubas and Shanny probably gave them an earful over Buntings phantom penalties. Leafs have to rely only on themselves. They are not getting any breaks from anyone nor should they. That’s the way it should be. Have to dominate and beat all comers.

If the Leafs are worried about Samsonov being overworked going back to back, just waive Timmins Or Gustsafsson, call up Woll, if they get picked up so be it. Or let Samsonov play the first period, hopefully Toronto has the lead, then let their back up play the second and third period. Or maybe throw Samsonov in for the third if nessary.

Why would we risk losing a warm body for a roster decision in a game that doesn’t impact the standings? Ideally we can win this one because I want to see us play hard and win every game but if they have to take an L so be it. Also nice to not give Tampa the comfort in having seen Samsonov on the eve of the playoffs.

Don't you think they would have if they could? Liljegren would require waivers. Pretty sure everyone on the team has to go through waivers IIRC.
Yes, waiving any of our current roster players was a total non starter, as none are waiver exempt.

To me there's no difference between a first round exit and second round exit. Particularly if the 2nd round loss is to Boston, it's just more of the same. Win the cup or at least get to the finals. Just my take.
Losing a second round match up against the team that just set the record for most victories in a season would be unacceptable? That's absurd. Not getting out of the first round would be a different story.

Good grief, the denial of the emergency recall exemption seems to be the NHL being consistent with the call they made on the Rangers just last month.

The Rangers were in an emergency situation with enough cap space to resolve it but instead used that cap space to trade for Patrick Kane. They tried to get an emergency cap exemption and the NHL denied it.

The Leafs were in an emergency situation with enough cap space to resolve it and instead spent that cao soace to sign Matthew Knies. They tried to get an emergency cap exemption and the NHL denied it. My guess is that the Lafferty and Gustaffson issues popped up after the request was denied.

It appears that the Rangers suffered another injury in the first game for which they were derenied the exemption. They were then allowed to replace that injured player with one on an emergency cap exemption.

I think it's very possible that the NHL has allowed the NHL to claim general soreness or tightness for Samsonov and he will sit out Woll will play with an ATO backup. It's also possible that the NHL has simply allowed one of Custaffson or Lafferty (if still unable to go) to be replaced with a goalie (Woll) using an emergency cap exemption. |

All in all, the situations seem pretty similar and it doesn't feel like the Leafs are beeing singled out at all.

But that may just be me.

At this point? Yeah, I don't care about the regular season records beyond playoff seeding, its meaningless. I've felt this way all season long since the Tampa defeat, so I'm not bent out of shape with Boston's impressive record. Yes it's impressive, but playoffs are a whole new ball game. Losing to Boston AGAIN is a failure. I'm tired of qualifying crushing defeats year after year with "well the other team was really good though". Doesn't matter, they should be aiming to go further than any other team since 67. Just my personal take.

50% of the teams are in the same boat.

Signing Knies was more important. As was trading for McCabe, Lafferty, ROR and Accari.

What a terrible mess to have quality NHL depth
Didn't moma ever tell you it doesn't matter what others do. The Murray signing killed us and while some think this is genius cap management I think it harms us more than helps.

You ever read people's comments in here and realize they got picked last whenever they played sports? That's the folks who think this game matters at all
It has minor meaning in that it could help determine home ice if the Leafs make it past the second round. There is even less meaning for TB in that it could determine home ice if the Lightnings made it to the SCF against Seattle or Winnipeg. :)

To send a player down after the trade deadlne, they had to have been on the AHL roster at the deadline.

If what you are saying is true, it would have impacted the Avs and Bolts the past 3 years. But it didn't. They actually combined to win the Cup all 3 years.

So if the Leafs are going to take a page out of someone's book, those two teams are the ones to do it.

Trading for Murray wasn't the best, nor was it the worst.

We have zero information on how he has helped Samsonov, Woll or anyone else in the dressing room. If he has helped Sammy become a better goalie then it was 100% worth it

Is Simmonds allowed to play tonight
Unless, they werre allowed two emergency recall cap exemptions, no. jHe is assigned to the Marlies and the Leafs have no cap to call him up.

EDIT: According to CapFriendly, the only call-up is Woll.

Any word on players resting?

i'd imagine a few of our heavy hitters will be on a back to back
It's going to depend whether any or all of Jarnkrok, Lafferty, or Gustafsson are ready to go. If we assume that all three are unable to go, then the only possible change would be Timmons coming in for one of the d-men who played last night.

So, whether any forwards get rested depends on the health of Jarnkrok and Lafferty. Similarly, resting a second d-man depends on the health of Gustafsson.

This is assuming tha CapFriendly is correct in showing Woll as the only call-up.

I dont know if i can watch this game. Its so pointless and im at the point where i cringe every time someone takes a shot from the point praying it doesnt hit someone in the hand, or anywhere that will cause damage.
Blue Jays home opener tonight!

Also (theoretically) starting at 7.
