Looks like the leafs playing hardball with the league on this and won. Glad to see them throw their weight around a bit on stuff like this.
Almost a pity, would have been funny to start the emergency backup or even do something like pull the goalie just to embarrass the league

A couple of possible reasons:
* Second game of back-to-back.
* It's look like it will be Joseph Woll, the third string goalie, in nets tonight, but up until about an hour ago, there was a possibility that the Leafs may have started an ATO goaliie. This is assuming that they have no intention of starting Samsonov back-to-back, especially against Tampa Bay.
As for resting players, that will depend on the status of a few minor injuries. If we assume that all three players who were out last night are out again, then one defenseman could be rested.

PVR? We PVR all Leafs games and can get through them in just over an hour.
Dubas gambled that the league would let the Leafs get away with something they didn’t let the Rangers get away with just last month. He lost. But basically, he felt he gamble was worth it to sign Knies.

My guess is the Samsonov bumps and bruises are a way for the Leafs to get Woll up. Would assume it is minor, and if this was Game 1 he would be playing.
Murray on the other hand, have to figure he is done for the season and probably doesn't play another game as a Leaf.
For next season, have to assume Samsonov is qualified and Woll is his partner.

A big ”told you so” to all the apologists saying we were over reacting to Samsonov looking fatigued the last two games. He is dealing with something, as it obviously appeared, and it was pure insanity to have him in at all….just pray to god it doesn’t linger into the playoffs. We already have the China doll with a concussion, the organization failed even putting Sam in there with this stuff going on, just an absolute short sighted joke.

Every player on the roster requires waivers, so that would be in essence giving away a young player.
