GDT: Leafs at Tampa 7pm

Two possibilities why Sammy is being shut down. The first reason being that the Leafs have seen enough from Sammy recently to be confident in his game heading into the playoffs and don’t think he needs another tune up game and they’re just better off giving him a week off to prepare and heal bit.

A conspiracy theory I’ve got is that the league is still f***ing with Toronto but the Leafs are just going along with it to get through the end of the season. Samsonov has had a heavy workload but he’s looked fine in the saves he was making and how he’s played, and I can’t imagine Keefe and the training staff would be stupid enough to keep him in against Montreal and Florida if he was battling a serious injury. Say what you will about Keefe’s tactical decisions, but that’s not a mistake he or anyone on the team would make given what’s at stake for the playoffs.

I’ll bet that the league was going to reject an emergency call up of Woll again as a way to punish the Leafs for cap circumvention even though other franchises basically wipe their asses with the CBA. So instead of playing an ATO and embarrassing him and the team, the Leafs decided to shut down Samsonov for the year.

Like by all rights Murray having a concussion should be more than enough of a reason to allow an emergency recall of Woll and allow Samsonov to at least backup. Given that Samsonov won’t even be on the bench for the final two games tells me something is amiss. Either it’s to get through the leagues BS or the Leafs are just being overly cautious. Hell maybe it’s both.

Sammy wanted to play Thursday and made it public. So to avoid controversy they agreed to use light injuries excuse so it wasnt Keefe vs Sammy decision that could blow up game 1 with a leaky goal. my 2 cents.

Tampa is one of, if not the dirtiest team in the league that has a history of taking runs at Marner. Kucherov could have sliced his calf last year before the playoffs, Sergachev with the headshot last year, earlier this year Bellmare boarded the absolute shit out of Marner when the period was ending. Good decision to sit him, Tampa will resort to as many dirty tactics as possible. They know they are out matched on paper this year and will need to do anything they can to give themselves the upperhand.

This team employs Kucherov, Sergachev, Perry, 3 of the biggest pieces of shits in the league.

Would have been nice to sit some more guys and call up some of the tough guys, but I think the depth players are going to play a lot more today, I expect the roster to basically flip.
 
Really curious to see what the lines are gonna look like. Can’t find them posted anywhere. I hope Timmins pulls a Pysyk at forward tonight.

Might have been? Kucherov attempts slewfoots and other dirty shit on us pretty well every game we play with Tampa.
 
If we could I would of dressed a bunch of bruisers and just lay the body (cleanly! Not dirty) the whole game.

Dress Clifford, Simmonds, Zahorna, Schenn. Play them 17-20min and just straight dump and chase all game, finishing every check hard (and clean), and drop the gloves only when they offer.

Just chip away at their regulars while protecting our own.

Really would have liked to see Simmonds draw in for this one. I don’t see why he isn’t while Timmins plays forward…….?
