The NHL isn't letting us because they have decided that we created our own emergency by signing Knies rather then adding a 2nd goalie to the roster.
Boston Bruins announced today, April 9, that the team has recalled forwards Vinni Lettieri and Oskar Steen, defensemen Jack Ahcan and Connor Carrick, and goaltender Brandon Bussi from Providence on an emergency basis.

Wonder what the "emergency" in Boston was? Krejci looks to be their only "short term" injury as of April 9th.

Boston has the cap space, they don't need to use an emergency recall.

One of the differences is that I think Boston has the cap to make these moves (although not enought to activate Hall which is another matter). They are not asking the league for an Emergency Recall Exemption which essentially allows a recall that does not count against the cap.

Helps when your top 2Cs are signed for like 10 million less than they should be.

Leaf fan brains not wired to think past the first two rounds lol.

Can't blame you given the history, but Edmonton and Vegas are also in the same point range if it goes to SCF. They aren't exactly meaningless games, which is the point the other poster was making, and I agree. Eyes should be on the ultimate goal not just rounds 1 and 2.
LOL. Dude, let’s not even think of the SCF and if we’ll have home ice against Edmonton or anybody else in the West.

Let’s get past the 1st round first. Lol.

Their cap wizard and GM have given them a roster bigger than 23 players (we are in cap hell, oh no) that are all NHL caliber and we don't want to lose anyone.

No one should view this as a negative.
Dubas did gamble that either Murray would be ready or that they could get an Emergency Recall Exemption from the league. I believe that Dubas and the front office considered the current situation an acceptible risk. I really doubt tha t the refusal of the exemption came as a surprise.

Well, they're using emergency recall (which allows them to exceed the 4 post-deadline callups) but they're not using a emergency recall exemption (which allows them to do it without the callup affecting the cap).

Aren't we counting our chickens before their hatched?

Would an early 1st round exit from the playoffs change your homerun to and pop fly out?

Heck Murray could return from the dead unexpectidly still; and win the Leafs a playoff game/series and his strikeout ruled a tip ball and then a success thereafter based on what is still ahead.

If the Leafs lose in round #1 again is the new goalie tandem this year really any better than the old goalie tandem from last year which they replaced?
I must say that you have some really interesting takes for a Leaf's fan.

Leafs will use ATO again and likely start him .. but I would practice their 6 on 5 game and play game like it is last 2 minutes with tender out .. no better practice .. maybe we could learn a thing or two about what works best .. who cares if game is 20-2 .. big deal

Even following the NHL's warped position yesterday, I don't see any legitimate reason why we wouldn't qualify for the exemption for this game.

I get that for last game since we made a roster move inbetween, but wouldnt the game and roster changes "reset" between?

If not, demoting Knies seems like an easy option then maybe Tavares takes the kid watch shopping while they enjoy a day off in Sunny Florida.

Again, based on what I've been reading and possted about earlier, post-deadline, you're only allowed to send a player down if they were on the AHL roster at trade deadline. Since Knies or none of the other Leafs on the roster were on the AHL roster at that time, sending someone down is not an option (waiver eleigible or not).

I mean it was a gamble for sure...both of them were realistically. There were a ton of awful goalies out there last off season. I am just happy we got a good one. LTIR or buyout Murray for next season and we can move on lol
Me too. I think Sammy could be really good for us long term

To me there's no difference between a first round exit and second round exit. Particularly if the 2nd round loss is to Boston, it's just more of the same. Win the cup or at least get to the finals. Just my take.
