Interesting to note, the day they announce the new goaltending coach a bunch of speculation floating around local radio that they might start the season with Mrazek & Kallgren or Woll. Which is exactly what I said they might do the day they fired Briere. It now seems to be all about PR for this upper management because they know they screwed themselves with the roster.

Best Pres. and GM. Let's run it back !!

Was it the SN Radio or TSN? OverDrive?

you guys want to know something funny:

Bill Cosby was given an honorary PhD from some college and insisted to be called Dr. after that. He didn't actually do anything to earn the degree.

He may argue that he had a fair bit of experience in pharmaceuticals.....

Also as a coloured hockey fan, this is terrific. I saw the news broke and I couldn’t believe it. Just goes to show with hard work it’s a possibility. Grier has worked hard to earn that opportunity but it’s nice that he broke through and has now paved a way for others who are coloured and love the game enough to want to be a GM one day. His brother is the GM of the Miami Dolphins in the NFL I believe, so great day for the family.
I agree with this 100%. Hard work and talent should be rewarded equally no matter what

Dr of perversion

But isn’t Wickenheiser an actual medical doctor? She’s quite an impressive human overall.
I don't know about Ontario but in some places you need to complete your residency before you're technically a Doctor.

She's definitely completed med school.

Why do they refer to her as Dr? What exactly does she have her doctorate in? Why are the other individuals not given their titles (Mr)? Is she supposed to be the called Dr, Wickenheiser in a professional setting when doing hockey things?

This just seems like pandering.

If only the leafs were as good at playoffs are they are in media relations.
She has her doctorate in medicine.

You are a Dr the minute you complete your doctorate. You are fully allowed to practice once you complete your residency.

Angela James is an owner or GM (Can’t Remember) of an NWHL team in Toronto right now. So if they did hire her, she’d have experience in upper management. Not to mention she is one of the best female hockey players to grace the ice.
It is the Toronto Six

There's no sense in worrying about this until game one happens and we have a tandem of Woll and Mrazek.

I can see the reasoning but if it were me I would sign a reliable backup. Imagine the heat should Mrazek go down in November and your goalies are Woll and Kallgren ?? Too risky and doubt Dubas chances it.

Oh for sure. I don't see how management doesn't make at least one addition. That would be a nightmare scenario.

Yeah and they all enjoyed significantly more success than Dubas has in the same time frame.

Imagine if Colorado actually hired Dubas as GM? Likely not raising the cup right now.

Burke was bad at drafting and even the Kessel acquisition doesn't make sense, he could have offer sheeted a 1st, 2nd and 3rd but chose to give an extra 1st. Percy and Biggs are rough too.

I didn't like Nonis much, the Bolland add and Gauthier pick were highly questionable.

I don't know who to credit for Marner...Lou hadn't come on yet 100%....I guess Hunter as the guy that pushed hardest?

Nonis was GM for Nylander.

Burke did fantastic on trades, bad at drafting and UFA kinda blew up in his face.

Despite Nonis making the playoffs instead of Burke, it just seemed like a lot of mediocrity under him.

Lou, we were a team on the rise, his extensions were all solid with Andersen, Hyman, Brown etc. I wish he got the chance at Nylander, Matthews and Marner.

We're constantly bargain bin hunting under Dubas because we're right up against the cap.
I heard a story (think it was on the Steve Dangle podcast) that apparently at the 2014 draft, Shanahan asked Nonis and the scouts who they were drafting at 8th overall. They answered with some D man that was off the board. Shanahan asked what the reasoning was and they said " he's big". Shanahan then said we are selecting William Nylander. It was not long after that, Shanahan fired Nonis and pretty well the whole scouting staff.

I could very well see this being true considering our drafting the previous 5 yrs or so.

The fact that you believe Nick Kypreos has any sort of inside information, after being fired from his position at SN for not having inside information, is the most laughable part of this post.

Nonis is the GM on record but I don't think I would attribute the pick to him. The next 3 D were Honka, Sanheim and DeAngelo.

I assumed Shanny took the wheel on that whole thing but assumed Nonis wanted Ritchie.

Shanny got a lot right in the early days, a credible coach (although some of the methods in the early days were questionable) and an experienced GM. Revamped scouting...picked the wrong guy there and yea...

I think Dubas got a lot better in the last couple of years, he just seems very stubborn about the big 4 strategy.

I doubt Nonis was allowed to even staple two pieces of paper together once Shanahan was brought on board.

Not much to dislike here, especially Metcalf and Wickenheiser (curious to see if her hands on role expands with this.

And this stuff is nothing new. Lou gave Hunter name only title promotion to make him seem appear equal to Dubas too. Plenty of GMs play around with promotional stuff.

Wow local radio said it so it must be true.

I do wonder if part of the reasoning is to make it harder for other teams to poach from this group. Teams won't stand in the way of promotions but less likely to grant permission if its a lateral move.
