Rumor: Leafs and Oilers will not be looking for a goalie at this year's trade deadline.

Fact: Leafs and Oilers will not be advancing past the 1st round of this year's playoffs. Oilers might even not make the playoffs alltl togethet

They'll probably get in. Tight race but they've been playing well over the past ten games since Woodcroft came in. The lost to Tampa Bay, sure, but they outplayed the Lightning. They beat Florida while being outplayed. They lost a close 2-1 decision to Carolina after playing a lot of back to back games to make up for lost Covid time.

They should make it. Out in the first round? Maybe so if Holland doesn't fix the holes that remain in the line up.

To be fair... from Toronto's perspective, who's realistically available that is a clear upgrade on Campbell/Mrazek?

Fleury is the obvious choice, but he may not want to come here, and after that, it really is slim pickings.

Take a look at the top 25 goalies by save percentage, amongst guys with at least 15 starts (Campbell ranks 14th right now):

Has Koskinen's recent hot run taken away doubt for Holland to try and get a goalie.

Toronto is confident that Campbell is just in a funk?

Goaltending can easily sink any team in the post-season, this is a gamble gamble for both teams imo

Who's got a goalie that would improve their positions? Is that goalie available? Does that goalie want to leave his current situation? I think it's quite likely both clubs made calls around the league and found the market not to their liking.

This is my take , trading for a goalie at the deadline is generally not something a true contender does or a team that is close. The only goalie worth going after is MAF his experience and record gives teams more confidence in taking that risk. However 2 things one it sounds like he will simply finish out the season in Chicago, unless something changes that signal Sent to the league imo made teams rethink going after a goalie. Plus when MAF came to Chicago his first month or so was rough new team and that would be common for any goalie moving to a new team enough time to settle in and regain there focus and confidence...

We'll have to see at the deadline because I don't think Holland thinks Koskinen is suddenly a good goalie. That said, some people here think McDavid is gonna be disappointed or has any say in the trade deadline. I don't think he does. If he did, that's a bigger problem than even goaltending. To have a GM that makes decisions based on the request of one player.

Also this thread should be tagged as speculation. It is not a rumor. Chris Johnston did not say he has heard anything rumors. He speculated.

I can't stand either team, but I guess that means no Cup in Canada for another year...

Don't say Calgary.

Call me crazy but I think Dubas would be interested in Matt Murray if Ottawa retained to around 3-3.5 mil, vbecause we all know he loves his grey hounds. Unless Ottawa wants to keep him now that his play has improved. But I do recall him being waived earlier.

Not saying its what I want or anything, just seems like a Dubas move, when he's lost he looks to the grey hound alumni.

Imagine being Mcdavid and hearing you didnt want to trade a 4th rounder to get a bit of insurance.

The same McDavid who - when interviewed at the All-Star game and asked who's an unsung hero for the Oilers, answered "Koskinen," that same McDavid?

I'm not denying that our goaltending has been well below average for the year, but the players actually like Koskinen and believe in him (regardless of fan's opinions) and Koskinen has proven capable to go on runs of stellar play (which he currently appears to be on). Will that fizzle out before the playoffs? Quite possibly, but Mike Smith has also proven capable of going on a run (doesn't look like it this season, but stranger things have happened).

Last year everyone hated Kosko and praised Mike Smith; the year before that, the reverse was true. We need the stars to align, but both can up their games. Incredibly uncomfortable to rely on something like a goalie going on a heater, but not every team can have the luxury of putting a Vasilevsky in net 65 times a year.

If we're tossing a 1st + prospect into a package, I'd much rather do it for a Dman than a goalie. I just don't see a goalie that is realistically available that is a considerable upgrade.

MAF ain't waiving for here.
Gibson I can't imagine is available.
Holtby is on a team we're fighting with for a playoff spot.
Varlamov is a maybe, but I think he's a good mentor for Sorokin and I think the Isles plan on writing off this season and going right back to being competitive next year.
Reimer? Craig Anderson? Maybe marginal improvements, but I'd just as soon rely on the "heater" strategy.

Everyone said the price went up for Edmonton because everyone knew we needed a goalie....this is just Holland trying to lower the price...

Obviously Toronto isn't. Not shocking the Oilers are not as they may or many not make playoffs. Short of Gibson, a healthy price or MAF, a goalie isn't gonna to help enough to win a round

idk. Under the new coach the team seems revived. Most Oiler fans aren't worried about the risk of missing the playoffs now. It would be an appropriate move for management to make a roster upgrade of some type at least

If Oilers aren't going to get a goalie, then at the very least they should solidify the bottom 6 and defense core.

QFT.

Maybe a guy like Forsberg moves to provide a team with some insurance; but I don't think any contenders are replacing their #1 goalie in this market.
