People are not going to be happy when they find out Schenn won't be playing most games because he's n.

He only played in 19 of 49 games in those 2 runs while averaging 10 minutes of ice time. He only played 1 game in the 2 final series.

I think he's depth and will get 'opponent specific' opportunities.
Maybe. My guess is though that Dubas and Keefe are on the same page in terms of icing a meaner, competitive lineup.

If no one is traded I would probably sit Lilly for playoffs as the #7. There is no shame beng a.young #7 on an experienced, very deep defense core. He has grown but this.playoff roster must mesh and be unrelenting.

I have thought about it a bit.

As of right now, I really don't like it. A great story and all, Schenn returning home for a Cup run, but he's a #6/7D at this point.

That means we have either burned a 3rd round pick for D depth when we already had 8 capable NHL D or he's going to actually play and make our D core worse. (Nightmare scenario: Schenn is the intended replacement for Liljegren. Don't lie, you can see it happening).

Maybe there is another shoe to drop. It would make sense given that 9D is beyond what is needed for depth. But if not, then combined with the Sandin trade, this has not been a good 24h for Dubas IMO.
Or just maybe Dubas is 2 or 3 steps ahead of you already??

Absolutely not. Holl sits

I think the Leafs overpaid for Luke Schenn.

I would be surprised if he plays regularly from here on in. He's depth, that's all.

Luke Schenn is going to be Rielly’s partner. There is no way they actually think Holl and Rielly is a good pairing

Lily is #5 for me.
Shenn, Holl, Timmins battle it out for the 6 spot.

OVERPAID.
What can you expect for a 3rd round pick?
Bargain shopping.

I think overpay might be the wrong word - not necessary and redundant maybe? I could see why some might think that.

I don’t feel that way. Welcome back Luke.

I expect more than a bench warmer.

Jordie Benn can sit in the pressbox every bit as well as Luke Schenn. The Leafs didn't need to give up a third-round pick to find someone to do that.

Redundant is exactly the right word.

I don't mind having Luke Schenn back -- it's kind of nice.

It would be a whole lot nicer at the cost of a fifth-round pick, though.

Luke smashed the Leafs 12 times last we played, he will add energy to the group.

You got me thinking about redundant pickups pickups of the past and I can't get David Rittich (3rd) and Riley Nash (6th) out of my head.
That was dumpster diving.

I would play Liljegren a lot -- for everything he's worth.

This is his time to show what he has, and grow.

Why not Brodie?

I mean if you can stick him on the 3rd pairing with Giordano and then roll Rielly-Lilly and McCabe-Brodie I think that’s solid and physical. You then have Gustavsson- Timmons as extras.

Just the fact that Dubas took him off the market so a team like Boston or Tampa can't add him is a win in my eyes. The less of these physical players available to them, the better. He is still a decent depth piece in case of injuries even if he's not part of the top 6.

If the Leafs want to lose in the first round again then sure bench our most consistent and reliable Dman who's been taking his game to the next level this season.

Plus/minus isn't everything, but he's got the highest number among all Dmen playing more minutes against tougher competiton this season. I said it before and I'll say it again he should be playing at least 2nd pairing minutes if not 1st pairing minutes if the Leafs want to give up fewer goals. Don't know if that will happen, but it should because he's far better defensively than Rielly is who should be playing less.

If the Leafs want to succeed they really should play Rielly less and especially not with Brodie. Every game that they're on the ice together they seem to have issues and don't look very good defensively together. Since we're not moving Rielly we're stuck with working around him, so try him out with Schenn, McCabe or go back to Liljegren, but they really need to stay away from Rielly-Brodie pairing.
