Nucks fans keep saying that Schenn has improved as a Dman and that he isn't the same guy who left the Leafs years ago. Lets hope that's true otherwise I don't know why you'd trade for him only to not play him as a regular in the playoffs. Would've been better to keep the pick or use it for something else if that were the case.
He’s had to play in a top pairing role because of the sorry depth. But playing next to a puck mover and skater like Hughes helps some of his warts, and all of a sudden he’s more competent, albeit he ideally should be providing his services on your third pair. Put him next to a mover on the bottom pair and he will hit, kill pk, defend well, and move up the line up in a pinch if there’s injuries.

What I always like to do is whenever Leafs signs a UFA, or traded for a player. I like to go to that team's board and just read the reactions from fans like us. Usually, they give pretty good insights as to the players.
No need the case for Schenn since I know Nucks fans love him.

I think this was a terrible trade. Schenn is nothing special aside from physicality, and the Leafs already have too many defensemen.

That said, I love this trade. There's just something so likeable about Schenn and I'm glad he's back

schenn is not a top 4.

There is no universe that schenn is a top 4 on a contender anyway.

He is quite easily the worst dman we have fighting for that position with timmins and gustaffson.
I remember when Luke played against us in November and he smoked our LW every time he carried the puck up the ice.
Not just rub-outs, hard hits.

I just looked up the stats from that night and Luke had 12 hits in 17:19, 1 assist 0 giveaways and 2 takeaways, 2 blocks.
If you don't see value in that physicality and toughness you won't like this trade.

I love it.

I can't tell if he's depth or cracks the top six. I'm leaning depth, especially given how much Keefe likes Holl and how well Liljegren is playing.

But dang, it feels good to have Luke Schenn wearing the Leaf again.

I guess one could love a terrible trade if you like the personality and character of the player. Maybe it's not terrible trade then? Schenn is depth, he will get games in down the stretch, but it's really him and Holl vying for the last spot. We will have injuries, that's why you need a bunch of decent depth. I would have preferred to keep Sandin for that reason, but maybe he would become a distraction in the dressing room? who knows how things are behind the scenes. If things get too rough for Holl, you plug in Schenn, if an offensive D man goes down with injury, you have Gustafsson to run the PP. McCabe or Geo get injured, you have someone ready to come in without looking at Mete or Kral.

It was an excellent trade and exactly what we needed. Dubas has had a fantastic couple of weeks.

Not sure who got to him, or what he's been reading, but his recent outlook has been a hugely pleasant surprise.

He'll 100% be in the top 6. We've been adding leaders to this team to get through the playoff gauntlet. Zero chance Holl makes it above Schenn. It undermines everything management has done this last two weeks.

I think stylistically it would make sense to line him up next to Captain Morgan and limit their 5v5 minutes. Rielly isn't exactly a bastion of defensive prowess, but he's struggled particularly this season by my eyes.

Brodie-McCabe seems to be gearing up to be the minute muncher pairing, and Giordano-Liljegren being a great all around option to back them up.

Now see if Phil Kessel and James Reimer want to come back. Think Calgary will retain half on Naz?

I can't see a two.time Cup winning, hard hitting D Man not being in this top six.. I have to think another defenseman might be moved.
Or, at the very lesst he is in regular rotation but if you picked him up, use him. Even if it means Lilly sits for the playoffs. It is fine to sit ready,.he won't be going anywhere.

People are not going to be happy when they find out Schenn won't be playing most games because he's n.

He only played in 19 of 49 games in those 2 runs while averaging 10 minutes of ice time. He only played 1 game in the 2 final series.

I think he's depth and will get 'opponent specific' opportunities.

I do wonder. Having three of Gustafsson/Timmins/Holl/Schenn/Liljegren/Giordano (not playoffs) sitting out every game seems a bit nuts...particularly when they have Benn and Mete who can fill in pretty well in a pinch?
