Confirmed with Link: Leafs acquire Jake McCabe (@50%), Sam Lafferty, cond. 2024 and 2025 5th round picks for Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, 2025 1st (top 10 prot), 2026 2nd

I'm at the point in my life where I couldn't care less about "magic beans" as some people have called them. These draft picks wouldn't be on the roster for at least 4 years if they make it at all. This is the core we have to win with and if they can't, it all needs to be blown up and we'll recoup those picks.

Also, it's hard to believe people are criticizing the way Dubas spoke yesterday. Bizarre fan base we have.

Sure but they have proved in the past that they can’t get it done in the playoffs. They got smothered. Are we going risk another first round loss keeping them together?
they had a combined 17 points vs TB last year(9 matthews, 8 marner)

Other than 1 mistake, Lafferty is only on the books for 1 more year, his talk was as good as anyone in the same situation.

But this wasn't a playoffs acquisition.
These were 2 hockey trades, with term.

Holl has no leverage with the Leafs, and Leafs have already filled that potential hole for next year.

Rielly, Brodie, Sandin, Liljegren, McCabe, Giordano, Timmins all under contract.

I think they go into next year set on the blueline.

The tidiest part of it all, those 7 D combine for only 17 mill. That is great cap efficiency.

Well, actually 19+, but yeah. This is so tidy. They'll have some re-signings but Brodie will be on a new deal or moved along.

But whoever is GM next year has most of his work done for him.

He’s a slow learner apparently. They have needed this for years

Not really. He’s added these style of players throughout his tenure but I think the issue is he underestimated the need to have more than 1-2 guys that bring that element. And he also thought Clifford/Simmonds would be better than they were.

But Muzzin, Boosh, Foligno are examples of trying to add those elements.

Another possibility was he assessed the team and found that no matter what they added, it wouldn't be enough :dunno:

And we're getting to the point where his drafts should be coming of age.
Some unfortunate situations have hurt, Robertson and Amirov are two large hits.

This has to be the most balanced and complete team in 20 years

Tough luck we have bunch grade A contenders in our division but can't say Dubie is not trying
