I don't see them making any more trades to add to our lineup, unless it is a guy with term who can fit somewhere in our bottom 6, but it would help to accrue some cap so we can act as an in-between like we were with Lehner a few years ago.

Lyubushkin (and Dzingel) are likely the only noteworthy rentals the Leafs get this year... And that is a good thing. We may get a depth swap or two involving some Marlies depth (I can see us moving Menell to a rebuilding team for a LD who can be #8 on our depth chart for example), but I think people expect us to go "all-in" and that is not really a thing the Leafs should want to do.
Unless they know Matthews will re-sign they need to take advantage of the years left on his contract. I would like to see them add a top four RD with term and sacrifice a 1st and a B prospect if that gets it done.

Great trade!!!
Honestly thought it would cost us at least a 2nd just to unload Ritchie with his additional year at 2.5mil.
Got it done and added a physical RHD who likely slots in beside Sandin...and a guy who has shown he can be good when in the right surroundings in Dzingel. I think both are in the lineup for us. Dzingel has shown he can play, and isn't afraid to stick up for teammates. Lyubushkin can lay big hits, and will help make playing infront of our net a little less desirable.
And to think Dubas did this, and actually slightly saved money. Add in the fact he's free of any contracts in this deal for the off-season. Huge win by Dubas imo. Dzingel should bump Engvall. Lyubushkin should be 3rd pairing RHD. Like the move!

Lyubushkin is the kind of player you like to have in the playoffs when you're on the road without the last change and have the opposition put their best players out on the offensive zone draw
Sandin-Lyubushkin pairing could really do some damage with open ice hits. Might make an exciting pairing come playoffs

Was really hoping any deal with Arizona would include Crouse.

Doesn’t look like he’s in the plans, but you never know….

Interested to see what these guys add, and kudos to Dubas for recognizing Ritchie didn’t work out and moving on quickly.

Really liked what Ritchie represented but he just never got it together here, not for lack of ample opportunity.

Soooo Dzongle on waivers?

bunting. Matty. Marner
Kerfoot. Tavares. Willy
Miky. Kampf. Kase
Engvall. Spezza. Simmonds

cliffy. Dzingel as extra.

rielly. Brodie
muzz. Libby
Sandin. Holl
Dermott. Lilly?

i mean you could try now to trade Holl for an impact D. Holl and a 1st? For….

Very surprised there was no retention on this, still an okay & safe deal.

Edit: Didn't realize Yotes had 1 salary retention remaining.

lyubushkin is someone I watched and thought "why does every team but us seem to have no trouble finding big, hard-nosed defencemen who aren't slow or stupid and can make a decent pass in his own zone". despite being pretty unremarkable this type of player has just eluded us for so long and I don't know why. I did actually notice him so that's good.

dzingel always stood out to me as a decent player not quite putting it all together but I haven't watched him on arizona and I understand he seemed to play his best hockey against us. we'll see how he fits.. but I predict he takes engvall's place in the lineup and turns out to be a pleasant surprise.

very happy with this trade. I think we've addressed key needs and dropped a pretty bad contract at a great price.

I'm not sure why Dubas should get credit for having to waste a 2nd to get rid of that terrible Ritchie contract he signed in the first place. Whatever. I hope Dzingel does something useful occasionally.

think of him moving a 2nd 3 years from now for a a good bottom sty at home defensemen and a serviceable winger.

He has clearly earned his spot on the first line.
What did Mikheyev earn ? Leafs need more in the 3rd line spot, if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs. Need more grit , toughness like bunting type player . Mikheyev is good during the regular season but playoffs he needs to go . Some can play , some can’t in the playoffs. Matthews and Marner still need to prove they can play in playoffs.

Mikheyev has earned his spot.

So we have

Rielly
Brodie
Muzzin
Holl
Sandin
Lilly
Dermott
Lyubushkin

That is NHL quality they can't all play so who goes?
