Damn, you wake up in the morn and WTF
Raddysh and the Calder Cup.
What's tomorrow going to bring?

Its the latest low info cheap shot being used but even if it were true (it isn't) the leafs have the counter. To be fair, I don't think the people saying Kucherov made him are just talking about the last pass.
For curiosity only:

Most effective? Ian Turnbull?
Was one of my favorites.

Kucherov controls a Power Play like few players can. He can manipulate a team's defensive structure and force defenders to take certain options away and have to give him other ones.
TOR has some talented players but no one who runs a PP like he does. I don't think Raddysh will get as many chances to tee it up on the PP next year.
That said, he does have a bomb, and it's not like McKenna or Nylander can't set him up to unleash it on occasion. It'll be up to the Leafs' PP coaching staff to draw up plays and try to get him (and other players) good looks. I'm sure they'll do a better job than Savard.
Hedman's back which puts Raddysh on their second pair and second PP, so you're paying a premium price for an asset you aren't using in a premium roleNot that I want to buy into Sid Seixeiro's schtick... but he actually raised a valid point today....
Why did Tampa do this?
It isn't like the shot is his only asset / strength.
I think his strength at moving the puck for 18 minutes a game is more important shooting the puck 3 minutes a game.
They asked players what they thought the team needed and they said puck movers are needed ... he moves the puck.
Both the new guys are puck movers.

Trade him to Toronto? To receive a 5th round pick when the alternative was to have him sign there for no return at all since he was slated to be a pending UFA.Not that I want to buy into Sid Seixeiro's schtick... but he actually raised a valid point today....

I look at this situation, and think to myself - if Tampa, who knows Raddysh really well, felt that he was worth anything in the realm of what he got, would have probably preferred to send him west; not in their division.
Raddysh has a powerful point shot, and that is something Leafs have been missing,
Morgan Rielly's point shot on the PP was not going to get things done.
I'd have preferred Raddysh at 5 years term but not 8.
It wasn't up to them. He was signing in Toronto regardless.
Well, NMC for 6 years, so he can be moved after 6 years which isn't much different than a 5 year contract.
I think back a few years ago when Zach Hyman was going to Edmonton. Kyle Dubas wanted more than Edmonton was offering to do the sign & trade because he felt the benefit Edmonton was receiving in an 8th year / lower AAV was worth more. He held out and Hyman went for 7 years.

Yes, it's a 5th round pick, but I feel like most teams wouldn't help out a division rival with a long term deal for a 5th round pick.

anyway as of right now. things can obviously change by the time season starts
My guess Lightning thought a 5th. was better than a nothing.
Any sort of data analysis, data mining, would have lead to the conclusion he wanted to move back home for the personal reasons that have been speculated, and the Leafs had openly said they were looking for puck moving defenders.
Raddysh: "I'm going home."
Leafs: "We are signing a puck moving defender in free agency."
Tampa: "Hmm, anyone have any ideal what Raddysh wants?"

He'll be our top D, and would have been on a handful of other teams too, but he's not ahead of Hedman or Moser in TBL
That, or their rumoured offer of 5 years x $6m (or whatever it was) wasn't just a "start low" in negotiations, but close to their belief as to what we was worth.
I get the reasons for him to chose Toronto over Tampa (Father, Family, young kid, maybe more coming). I actually think local players with extremely young families make for ideal candidates to get a deal on.
However, at the same time, Tampa's got $16m of cap space, with Oliver Bjorkstrand and Corey Perry to resign. They could have given him $7.5m x 8, which from a take-home standpoint would likely be similar to Toronto's $8.5m.
