Sounds like first six years -> NMC , last two years -> NTC (16 team list).

Raddysh is a luxury for Tampa since they already have Hedman, McDonagh, Moser and Cernak all signed. If you look at their lineup, they need scoring.

It signifies Hedman is going to play next season. Had they not changed the LTIR playoff rules I bet they would have re-signed Raddysh and signed Carlson, LTIR Hedman until there was cap space and went into the playoffs with all three.

Have to admit, I like the confidence Chayka is displaying. No hesitation to diving right back into the business of human being transactions.

It is refreshing to see Chayka not be terrified and go out and make some riskier moves...I just sit back and think "What were we thinking?" when it comes to Tre and his ability to actually build a team. His low risk-low reward trades like Joshua and Maccelli seem so bland and predictably bad in hindsight.

Seems like there is cohesion from the C suite to to the ice. I don’t know if it’ll work but it’s a prerequisite to winning, so there’s that.

The article says 6 years full NTC then 2 years 16 teams NTC.

Which is right? You don’t get both a NMC and NTC.

I think the NMC can carry into the last 2 years in the sense that he can't be dropped into the AHL. His 16 team no trade clause kicks in after year 6. He just worded it strangely.

Went to the Marlies game last night and now I understand why they never really brought up Villeneuve. He was not good. Like at all. He kept fumbling the puck and is pretty slow on top of it. That's not even critiquing his play to lose the game in overtime. I don't think he holds a candle to Danford when it comes to skating or even moving the puck. I am actually pretty impressed with Danford. I think he will be a solid 2nd pair guy like McCabe.

The only counter to that is that Kuch is such a wizard on the half board, he has the abilty to hold space and slow time down.

I'd say both are probably true though. Raddy got a boost from being on a PP with Kuch, but he still has a bomb and is a big threat.

Personally I would be putting McKenna on the half boards, Raddysh on the point, Matthews in the bumper, Knies at the net front, and Nylander on the other flank. I think McKenna should be in that Kane/Kucherov role along the half wall. He has that elite vision.

Tavares has a PP1 net front clause in his contract. No way around it.

Interesting listen. Talks about more than just the Raddysh deal.

He did say something like they had Plan A, B, and C, and Raddysh was plan A.

So what / who are Plan B and C, and are they still options?

You know... in a down year for the Leafs, they had a higher PP success rate than Tampa did.... That's without a setup forward, and without a good D to man the PP... Add McKenna, and now Raddysh to some combo of Matthews + Nylander and Knies/Tavares, and there is no question in my mind, that this years version of Toronto's PP will be improved over last years, which was already more successful that Tampa's.

Raddysh has a powerful point shot, and that is something Leafs have been missing,

Morgan Rielly's point shot on the PP was not going to get things done.

I'd have preferred Raddysh at 5 years term but not 8.

6 years of full NMC is not great, but to be expected in an age where everyone outside of AHL mid-season call-ups get full NMCs.

The flexibility in the last 2 seasons is critical. If his contract is an anchor by then or he's just extra baggage, 16 potential trading partners without asking for his sign-off is a whole lot better than zero and trying to convince him to give at least 1 team he'll waive for.

In future, I hope Chayka and any other Leafs GM insists on a team list in the final years of long-term contracts vs full end-to-end NMCs, specifically for those contracts that will stretch well into the player's 30s, regardless of how big of star they are.

I suppose I am nitpicking, that is one more year than I was hoping but with a 16 team list basically if he is still a sought after D Man by that point that one of the teams would be interested than the contract aged well.

NMC are the bane of my existence and I don't even sign the cheques.

Prior to last year his career best was 6 goals and 37 points, and 6 goals and 33 points in the 2 prior years with TB.
