Honestly, I'm not a fan. Right away, the trade destroys Reimer's confidence. So unless, Bernier can actually take the reins, I don't think we are in good shape for next season

If bringing in a guy who has been up to now a back up is going to shatter Reimer's confidence then add that to the list of reasons why I don't want him as our #1

How does this destroy Reimer's confidence?.. He proved himself by taking the Bruins to game 7!..
This will push him to be better.

Seeing as I expected the 1st (21 overall) for this year, this isn't that bad. I don't get the feeling Reimer will be long for the Leafs at this point though.

But speaking on strictly pieces given up, less than I thought I'd see.

Just spoke with Bernier. Pretty excited young man. ``Going to Toronto I think is a great challenge. They’ve got a really good young.'' con't

``... team and hopefully I can fit in and have some success with them.’’ Bernier also thanks LA GM Dean Lombardi for making it happen fast

Don't know how I feel about this quite yet but I'm glad that we didn't give up a whole lot.

Frattin will be definitely missed but he'll fit perfectly in LA. He seemed to have lost his scoring touch completely after that injury early in the year but once in a while he'll make some magical plays that renew faith. Scrivens I liked but he was less than reliable down the stretch. The second rounder hurts a bit but at least we have a choice what year it's dealt.

Very excited about Bernier, LA fans seem to like him a lot, he was just stuck behind an amazing goalie.

Bernier's agent Pat Brisson has already spoken with Leafs GM Dave Nonis and the two plan on speaking contract this week. Bernier is RFA

Reportedly, the Leafs also sent some cash to the #LAKings as part of the deal.

Hanging with Brad Doty.
According to some he is God and has no flaws...

Up til the playoffs when we won the cup, the Quick vs Bernier debate was unbearable. We would fight on our own boards for hours and over months. Bernier is very composed, solid on his positioning. Our goalie trainer is Bill Ranford and he worked with both Quick and Bernier. The only reason Bernier wasn't our starting goalie was because of Quick. Bernier was by no means a back up, he was just playing behind Quick. Quick doesn't do as well on a split load, he needs a heavy load to play well so Bernier didn't get as many games. Bernier he has all star potential and a very calming presence in the locker room and on the ice. You're gonna love this guy. He's better than Price.

Bernier saved our ***** when Quick was injured. Never would have made the playoffs without him. Our side is gonna really miss him, but he needs to play #1 somewhere. Couldn't be happier for him that he landed in Toronto.

Also, he was willing to fight Crawford during a playoff game against the Hawks.

Gardiner will not get traded for an unknown pick. I guarantee you that.

This is the new age of the NHL.

If your defenseman can't move the puck, it doesn't matter if you have star studded forwards...you will fail.

Gardiner and Rielly both need to be on the Leafs.

Gardiner is a 80 game known so he is an unknown to Edmonton also.

You have to expand your thought process, unless Mac T went to the Mike Milbury school of GM's. He is not making deals involving the #7 pick which would have been a top 3 pick last year. For Gunnar or Franson. Rielly and Gardiner are the only 2 d men that can get it done.

And it's not like they are known commodities either. Last I checked Gardiner was in and out of the minors last season, he is not Letang Leafs nation. Has not proven this at all. He is a player with a lot pf potential to go either way, and this is sellable to a GM like Mac T.

Plus the potential the Leafs get back would far exceed the risk of losing 2 young lesser unknowns.

remier was much better then last year but his rebound control became scary in the playoffs ... to the point that I think they win that series if he was giving up so many second chance points.

he never stole a game and he cut down on the number of games he cost the team. this team has endured a lot of losing so maybe the bar was that low for a lot of people

I think this will end up being a good deal for both teams.

I also don't believe for a second that this will destroy Reimer's confidence. Competition is good.

Based on the Hextall interview, sounds like Bernier has been on Nonis' radar for months. Definitely see Reimer moving.

Feel a little bad for Reims that his last memory of the Leafs would be game seven.

Can Ranford tag along with him? :p:

Seriously good luck with the trade though. Hopefully we both end up winning out of this. Frattin should be a great complimentary piece for your team and I think he'll flourish in a system like Sutter's.

I guess this means MacArthur gets re-signed.

Or at least I hope so.

This deal could go either way, promising goalies dont pan out often in Toronto. Frattin could be a meh 3rd liner in the NHL or he could be a late bloomer that's about to break out and make Toronto wish they'd had more patience. He has proven scoring pedigree in the AHL and has shown flashes of it in the NHL.

Scrivens was never going to take the net from Reimer. Bernier will challenge Reimer and Vice Versa to be the best goalie. Whoever is playing better earns #1. Thats it. Whoever earns it at camp is #1. No one can be given anything. Its not the Muskoka 5 retirement home anymore.

#7 overall is (proven)??????? unknown. Letang was not Letang in his first 4 seasons in the league. Get your head checked.

TOR did take back money (cap hit applied against TOR) in Bernier deal, in the $500,000 range.

What cap space issue? Bernier will probably sign a 2yr ~2m so that's $3.8m invested in both goalie spots, thats 60% of what an average top 15 goalie makes... Pretty good cap management to me.

Bernier won't sign for a penny over 1.8 mill because that would just be wrong

This thought just came to my mind. The last memory I have of Matt Frattin as a Maple Leaf was him missing the net on that breakaway against the Bruins in Game 7 when the Leafs were winning 4-2.
