Bud Light, though I don't particularly like the beer and I f***ing loathe the company

Kind of interesting b/c don't most cola providers either do regional flavors or at least taste different based on what chemicals are in the water supply?

you know I'm not sure about the multi-nationals, though I know that Coke and Pepsi definitely have a different taste in other countries, I've always looked at that more as a HFCS vs Sugar thing. Definitely would be interesting to see if say Japanese Coke vs Mexican Coke vs US/Canada Coke have major differences beyond that.

Depends on how the shoulder hit. Also, that's slow mo (although I'm sure it's the same as real time in your pickup games.)

He could be a big wuss, but that could also be a real injury.
yep, if the shoulder hit the boards wrong that can do some damage even if it doesn't look like that serious a hit. And that definitely did not look like a serious hit.

Lemme guess, he's one of those guys who wears those Sher-wood shoulder "pads" to look tough?

Hit wrong and it can do damage, but you're supposed to be pretty well padded to make hitting wrong enough to do damage a really freak occurrence.

Jesus ok you win, the grease and flour food of the south is the best ever.
Nah , You are right. The flavors are more distinct You don’t need to fry it orcover it in gravy, sauce etc to make it a signature dish. I love my southern food but …

Well, one of my teammates didn't even wear shoulder pads until he got run into the goalpost a couple of seasons back. Now he wears the lightest pads he can find, and he's not the only guy who does that.

Yes, an NHLer should have great pads, but sometimes you just hit wrong.

Mythos, Ghassans (2nd generation at this point), and Acropolis are all owned and run by actual greek people. Zaytoon is run by Palestinians. Maybe you're conflating "authentic" and "premium"? Because if you have a gyro/kabob in europe, most of them are pretty average street food. Because this great "authentic" food you're glorifying is the culinary equivalent of a hot dog stand in its home region.

For whatever reason, a bunch of Greeks moved to Charlotte post-WWII and dominated the city’s restaurants. Growing up there, all the good working-class restaurants were run by families whose names ended in -as, -is, -os.

So, it was perfectly normal to sit down at a greasy-spoon, meat-and-3 Southern diner and see fresh made baklava on the menu. The apotheosis of that culture is Showmars, where you can get a burger in a pita. That never struck me as odd until I moved away and realized those things don’t go together elsewhere… it’s a unique Greek/Southern hybrid subculture. I’m pretty sure the rest of the world is unaware that it exists.

I was delighted to find out that there’s a Showmars in Raleigh now.

We were excited to try it, and it flat out sucked. The chicken was rubbery and borderline inedible. Maybe we just got them on a bad night, but it was so bad that we haven't even considered going back.

It was likely a bad night. I've been three or four times to both the Wake Forest and Brier Creek location and it's always been good. To me, a Showmars lunch is either a Santorini pita or a Flounder sandwich, a Greek salad, and a baklava cheesecake.

Oh I see we're done with the relentless string of "Unsolved Mysteries" GDTs, eh? What precipitated that? Actually, what the hell was what started it? So confusing

We lost, so someone else started a new string of GDTs. That's the way it's always been around here. If the Canes win, the person who started the GDT keeps going. if the Canes lose, someone else takes a turn.

Their wheelhouse is burgers and lamb. Understandable to try the chicken but also not surprising that it wasn’t anything to eat twice.
