The new age of defensemen in NHL is not 6'3, 6'2 and so on its becoming more and more the norm that is guys around 5'10, 6'0 that are way more agile and shifty. When the game is trending against more speed at the forward position the same will it be at D.

Not saying that I wouldn't want a "big" defensemen but they are getting more more rare when looking at the upcoming years of prospects and players coming to the league.

Really impressed with everything I saw from Mete. I was kinda shocked that he fell to the 4th round and was really happy when we drafted him...

He's playing himself into the opening night line up for real. Yesterday was a good test for him, because I thought maybe close to any dman would look good aside Shea Weber, but yesterday he played with Jordie Benn who had a really bad camp and he even made him look good. That says a lot.

Mete will stick for minimum 9 games and I really hope he'll stay the whole season. He's something we don't have if he leaves.

Bergevin destroyed his whole left side of the defence this last Summer. Mete is a breath of fresh air and one of the only hopes to re-buid that left side again.

33rd defenceman taken in his draft year. It's incredible.

I don't understand how Mark Hunter didn't take him (he had 2 legit shots) when he traded so much to get him for the Knights and knew everything about him but I am certainly not complaining!

Great camp, incredible really. He's on the opening roster for sure, we'll see what he does when the real hockey begins.

Hate to break it to you, but you were wrong. He is better than Sergachev :D

Honestly i've always liked him more than Sergachev because Serge has a few flaws (and they're pretty big ones) that aren't apparent when he plays vs junior league players. That said, Serge gets to do whatever he wants in the O which makes him look better than he is. Sergachev has always been a great junior player, you've gotta wonder how well his game is going to translate to the NHL tho.

Outplayed Thomas Chabot by a lot tonight. Mete at +4, Chabot at -5. This is just one game, but Mete made Chabot look like Petr Popovic. You have to wonder how Chabot is a top 5 NHL prospect, while Mete is not even top 100.

Lol makes sure to qualify that you know it's only one game....then goes ahead and uses the one game to somehow come to a conclusion on Chabot and Mete. Makes a lot of sense.

You have to wonder? What's to wonder? It's a fact, plain and simple.

His IQ and poise is elite, even at the NHL level. Great passing ability, good shot, and very good skating just help. If this guy was 6'3" he'd be the best prospect in hockey.

Ekblad, Parayko, Seth Jones, Lindholm, Reilly, Trouba, Ristolainen, Sanheim, Morin, Hanifan, Werenski, Chabot, Chychrun, Sergachev.

They (smaller D-men) are still the exception rather than the rule. The NHL is definitely shifting to a speed game but preference is sill given to big guys who skate well; these guys aren't that rare. The prototypical defensemen in the "new" NHL is still 6'1"+ 195+ lbs.

lets not exagerrate... lets wait the 9 games trial and judge.Great shot? Yet to be seen.

His speed is unreal, he seems to have way better IQ then beaulieu. To me he is a perfect replacement to what we lost in Beaulieu. I could care less about Markov, he was getting soon to an end and he can comeback for a playoffs run.

Mete is much more than a replacement to Beaulieu imo. Beaulieu had the mobility, but Mete's shot can actually find the net, he's smart about the decisions he makes and when he jumps up into the play, his poise is ridiculous and much better than Beaulieu's was.

9 games, yes. If his poise carries over and he does well, he deserves to stay for the entire season. He's the perfect complement for Shea Weber on the top pairing.

Mete was/is def a top 10-15 prospect after the season he just had with the Knights. He outplayed both Sergs and Juolevi in his +1 draft year. Those guys were ranked top 10-15. So Mete should be there as well. Also, 4th rounders dont garner much attention until they do what mete has been doing.

I remember begging for Tim Murray to take Mete as early as the 2nd round...so infuriating.

Its not a fact at all. No one is arguing how good Chabot is but Mete is easily a top 100 prospect...to say the least.

He is easily a top 50 prospect and belongs closer to Chabot and Serge closer than most would admit

OK, and what does that have to do with Chabot being a Top 5 prospect.

It's NHL pre season, relax.
Read his quote again.

He was saying they arent as far apart as people make them out to be.

And yes it is but hes 19 and playing better game in and game out than every defender on the team making very few errors and bringing a skill set the team does not have.
