Jared Spurgeon is a better one IMO. He's much more of a two-way/defensive defenseman, rather than a offensive one.

Agreed.

Said before the draft that he'd be the best value Knights pick where they were ranked to go, and that was late 2nd. Good chance to be a steal imo

Why is nobody talking about Mete? He now has 40 pts in just 42 games played. He had 38 in 68 last year. This guy is going to be a real good player for the habs and is outplaying 5th overall pick Juolevi.

Honestly, he's been the 2nd best Dman in the OHL (behind Sergachev) for me.

What a steal.

Have you guys seen him play, or do you only judge him by his rare highlights and EliteProspect stats?

Everytime I watch London play he stands out. He's easily the fastest guy on the ice and has great hockey IQ. He has all the tools to be a top 4 dman only thing that might concern me is his size but he's strong so we will see how he does in the NHL. Also check this post from a london knights fan posted on the habs board.

Victor Mete will be a top 4 D-Man in the NHL.
Who does he compare to in the NHL?
Brian Campbell of the BlackHawks and Sami Vatanen of the Anaheim Ducks are two players Mete would be comparable to in the NHL now.
Mete has top end skating ability with high end speed, agility, quickness at a flash edge control to the left right backwards and forwards.
Is he the best skater in the OHL?
Absolutely!!
Mete's excellent mobility makes him very strong defensively. He is strong on the puck with crafty stick work, quickness,
positioning and smarts he usually comes out of the corners with the puck on his stick. At that point he makes a decision to skate the puck out of the D-Zone,
move the puck to the forwards or do both and join the rush into the O-Zone. His speed and quickness are hard to contain by the opposition.
He is a very good puck handler in tight situations and does a great job on the PP.
He plays with his 'head-up' and is very hard to hit as well as makes excellent passes to his team-mates.
Mete plays in situations..........5on5, PK and PP.
Dale Hunter almost always picks Mete as one of his first 3 players on the ice in OT 3on3.
Why wouldn't he?
The more space given to Mete makes him the most prominent player on the ice.
The more he plays...........the better he gets.
Mete has a high engine compete level and determination throughout the whole game. He takes pride in all aspects of his game
and is usually at or near the top in + - in the OHL.
He makes everyone else a better player because of his skill level.
Mete was a big factor in the Knights winning the Memorial Cup last season.
Should he have been on the WJC Canada Team this past season?
No doubt.............not a good decision on the coaches not to have him there. He
could've easily slotted in the #3-4 spot for Canada.
Montreal:
I saw him play in the Rookies Tourney in London.............he looked very good.
The Canadiennes need to give him a fair chance to show his skill in a few games at the NHL level..............he will surprise you!!

OK, zman77 is a little over the top in his praise of the Knights players. That being said, Mete has been outstanding all year including since coming back from injury. Has definitely outplayed higher profile guys Juolevi and Vande Sompel on the Knights this season. Not sure how it will translate to the NHL though.

Highest EP1/60 in the league right now.

His whole game is skating. He's a brilliant skater and uses it to his full advantage. But you can't play that way in the NHL, going deep in the O-zone all the time. He doesn't have a great shot or great skills, but has pretty good hockey sense and defends reasonably well. But there's not much projectable offense there.

For comparison a guy like Vince Dunn was much more skilled and a better shooter, didn't rely entirely on elite-level skating.

He's is by no means an elite offensive talent, but saying he doesn't have a projectable offensive skillset is selling him far short.

Yes, he has a pretty lackluster shot, which limits his effectiveness on the powerplay; however, Mete is a great passer and uses his speed to generate lanes and chances. There have been players like Alex Goligoski with poor shooting skills who are still effective offensively at the NHL level.

Reading the London Knights thread on the OHL board is really reassuring. A lot of them are claiming he's London's best player. Glad to hear that.

What makes either of them better the Hronek, for example?

Well Hronek is a late birthday so that eliminates him. Serg and Mete only turn 19 at the end of the season which is ridiculous when you think of it. And just because Chychurn made it to the NHL first doesn't mean he will be good. I really belive Mete will be the second best d-man out this draft.
