No one saw this kid coming this year. It looked like a smokescreen to take away from fact bergevin f***ed his D corp but this kid...absolutely wow. Elite positioning, speed, poise and hockey IQ off the charts. I don't know what his ceiling is or if he makes habs beyond 9 games this year but it looks like Mtl found another gem

i dont want to act like a smart ass but i've been laughed at saying this guy would be better than sergachev after he got drafted!

Where's all these lists proclaiming Mete isn't a Top 100 prospect? Do they update them after 8 pre season games?

Yikes. Getting a little carried away here.
I'm not gonna argue against that, but...when you watch this guy play, his only noticeable weaknesses stem from his lack of size. And he's not just lacking other weaknesses, either; as the recent posts in this thread attest, he's really good at hockeying.

a 6'3 mete would be the best prospect in the NHL. I agree with you. Imagine all he does plus being huge. Damn would be a dream...

I don't remember a young player coming in camp with no expectation at all, and just dominate the play like he has done. I'm talking Habs, i mean other players have been really impressive in the past, but we kind of saw them coming,

mete didnt come outta nowhere. He was better than prospects like Juolevi and Sergs the past season. Its just surprising for people to see a 4th rounder do so well when they got no clue who that player is. I doubt his play has surprised any Knights fans.

I wouldn't say he dominates the play. He just has that poise and that ability to jump into the play very easily thanks to his skating.

He has all that it takes to become a very, very solid defenseman. He has the speed, the skill, and most importantly, the smarts. If you compare him to Beaulieu, I think that's the biggest difference, aside from size. And I always liked Beaulieu, still do.

It'll be interesting to see how he does this year, whether that's in the NHL or the OHL. At this point I think it's safe to say he bought himself some time in the regular season. The picture could change once Schlemko is healthy and if Mete struggles early on. Definitely don't see him as a lock to stay on the Habs for the entire season, but I don't see how he could be sent down at this point. He has been our best defenseman in the pre-season.

I've seen Victor Mete played a few times. This kid is actually really good. I compare his skating to that of Patrick Kane. He does position himself very well on the ice. Moves the puck very well. If you can overlook his size, I say this kid will play top 4 minutes with the Haps. He reminds me a lot of Brian Rafalski.

he skates like Paul Byron but he shoots like Paul Byron

I watched the Florida (delayed because the Leafs were playing at the same time), Leafs game in the pre-season. Saw him a good amount in London as well, he was clearly their best d-man last year.....but you always asked yourself it would translate to the NHL because of his size.

He looked good out there offensively and moving the puck. Plays a very simple and efficient game and gets the puck on net quickly with some zip. He's not a naturally good skater (I'm only saying this because some of the elite skaters can glide around at top speed)...but he's very competitive when he skates. His feet are moving non stop...that's where he's going to find success in the NHL. He's not a possession PMD but more of a good rushing PMD..which is great because that is something the Habs sorely lacked last year..mobility on their back-end.

He's done enough to make the team IMO (and also fits a huge need with his skating). I would be very surprised if he goes back to London without the 9 game stint, at minimum.

He looks a lot like Krug out there. I wouldn't exactly say they can forget about Sergachev just yet, but the kid looks like he belongs in a top 4 for sure.

Hab fans are getting a bit carried away with his upside perhaps, just because he brings something none of their other D can currently provide.

has he played pretty much exclusively with Weber?

I'm not much of a Habs or hockey fan in general, but Mete impressed me as much as any young player has recently. His hockey IQ is off the charts, one can clearly see that watching him play.

Wait, why do you have a habs avatar then?

But I agree, Mete is the real deal.

Have to disagree big time there. Mete's skating is what makes him special. His skating is on par with some of the elite forward prospects in hockey, let alone dmen.

Where do you guys rank Mete among teenage Dmen? Chychren obviously got a full year in the NHL, and MacAvoy looks like he's going to be special. Then you have Makar who's a future superstar in the making IMO...

I think I'd have Mete 4th or 5th (haven't watched Heiskenen at all).
