Why does that eliminate him?

I agree, I don't see why that would "eliminate" him from comparisons. I mean, this is also Hronek's very first season in the OHL - and on NA ice in general. Sergachev, Mete are in their 2nd and 3rd (respectively) seasons in the league.

And don't forget Chychrun who is already playing in the NHL

It's just too early to declare who the best defenseman of the draft are...Mete has brought himself into the discussion with like 3-4 others is all.

I'm just saying don't be surprised if Serge and Mete are the 2 best d-men to come out this draft. Looks like Timmons killed this draft.

Disagree.

Come on dude really? For Mete I get, but for Sergachev it's obvious...

Hronek has 60 points in 55 games

Mete has 42 points in 45 games

Sergachev has 42 points in 46 games

Unless I'm missing something here - as in hronek is considered a disaster in his own end whilst Sergachev is considered a defensive beast, I'm not sure how it's obvious that Sergachev is superior....

It can be argued that because of Hronek's 7 month advantage in age his stats are less impressive. It could also be argued that Hronek's are more impressive because this is his first season on north American ice, while this is Sergachev's second season in the OHL and on north American rinks.

The chances of Serge or Mete winning OHL d-man of the year are very high. Feels good to have a nice solid d-core to build for the future.

Because it's all about points, I guess context or watching players play doesn't mean anything. Sergachev started hockey late, so don't even use the amount of time in NA rinks argument.

Mete is the number 1 d-man on the Knights he is outplaying the 5th overall pick by a fair margin. Their coach trusts Mete more than Juolevi. I've been watching Mete for a while now and the more I watch the more I get impressed. I'm more hyped about Mete than I am about Serge which is saying a lot.

If he is a number 1 than how come he averages less TOI than Juolevi????

I go to quite a few london games he doesn't get matchups against top lines.

The only thing Juolevi has on Mete is size and maybe a bit more consistent on the defensive side. Everything else Mete is better.

So toi is the only way to determine whos the better d-man now?

An exact quote from you.

"The coach trusts mete more than Juolevi"

So TOI doesn't mean anything according to you.............. but why would a coach who supposedly trusts a player more than the other put him out for more TOI??????

You are contradicting yourself dude.

When your comparing the Trust Level of a coach between two players YES

That doesn't mean much, DD would get the same if not a bit more ice time than Galchenyuk when MT was coach in the beginning. You would take Desharnais over Galchenyuk? Also where are you getting these ohl stats from?

Yeah that is my argument

More TOI and matched up against top lines is usually a good indicator of 1st pairing D-man

February TOI Mete = 15.45

February TOI Juolevi = 18.56

Where did you take those TOI from? I'm positive that they are wrong.

There are 60 minutes in a game and 6 defensemen to play them. Both Mete and Juolevi are over 20 minutes.

Funny, I've never read this before :sarcasm:

Seriously, every year we say that Timmins stole the show at the draft. Not much to show for it though.

Just signed an ELC with the Habs. Not bad for a 4th round pick. Looking forward to see what he can bring next camp.

Mete has looked fantastic in every game he's played so far. That isn't even hyperbole. He's been the Habs best defenseman, and yes, that includes Weber.

He will stick for at least a few regular season games, and if he continues his excellent play, he will stick for the season.

Hard to believe he fell to the fourth round, which I thought was pretty crazy at the time as well.

Didn't see the game - but sounds like he played fantastic. Really happy/proud of him.

Ha ha the Knights would be way better if he were back...but I've always been a big fan of players who are ready staying in the NHL b/c it's what they dream of most...so I hope he stays with the Habs as long as he can (and hopefully permanently!).

Can't believe Mete is 5'9 19 years old 4th rounder, he's playing a near perfect game against NHLers.
His size isn't great for an NHL d-man...but his skating is awesome...so to the extent his size is a detriment his skating will hopefully make up for it as much as possible.
