Ok maybe let's relax a bit

Being excited is one thing but you're setting yourself up for disappointment if those are your expectations.

Actually I just saw Ghosts corsi ratings in the neutral zone and they are Elite and easily the best on the team. He is definitely a big reason the Flyers have shown to be a better team.

Might want to just slow down a bit on the prospects expectations. I said a lot about what I think about Ghost since we've seen him play in the pre-season and the regular season of the NHL. I'd say he is way more of a known quantity than the others. There are a ton of great prospects who have failed to put it together at the NHL level.

I'd be careful with advanced stats since they sometimes can be very deceptive in how they portray information. Remember that article that said Matt Carle is as good as Ryan Suter? Ghost is certainly skilled offensive but he really needs to solidify his defensive abilities to be what a lot of clubs would consider to be a top defensive pairing player.

Agreed that some moderation is in order, you just have to realize how tough it's been as a Flyer fan waiting for all these kids to get to the big club.

And for Suter and Carle, say what you want, but I don't ever recall seeing Matt whining like a little baby about not having a RHS for a partner. LOL!

Well Carle did get to play with Pronger didn't he? Pronger gave Matt Carle the ability to fool clubs into thinking he was a 5 million dollar man so you can't complain that much.

So far Ghost seems to be very intelligent defensively. He has been put on the third pair getting limited minutes at even strength, but is slowly being fed more. I'd love to see him out with Giroux at Even Strength but he's often put up against the other teams top players so they don't want Ghost to be overwhelmed by the opposition. It'll take some time but I think Ghost is definitely a player who trends upward

Two more power play goals for the Flyers tonight. Only one point for Gostisbehere, but no question he is the main reason that power play is clicking now. Teams have one more very dangerous player to watch out for, Giroux has one more very good option to pass to, and overall the power play is much more dangerous and effective.

Before he came up Streit was in that spot but he was useless because he refused to shoot. So opponents just ignored him and put 100% of their attention on Giroux (and also at this time Voracek and Simmonds were beyond snakebit). Made it too easy for PKers. Now that Ghost is there they have to respect his shot because if they give him too much room it's over.

At 5v5 he's helping a ton by being able to move the puck out of the defensive zone like none of our other defensemen can. He only complaint I have so far is that Hakstol pretty much refuses to use Ghost and Giroux at the same time at 5v5... Such a waste for him to be out with the 4th line, meanwhile Giroux is stuck with Luke Schenn...

In fairness to Streit, he was playing hurt and finally had to have surgery. He used to shoot a lot more last year when he was healthy.

Oh yeah I know, I'm just saying that, no matter what the reason, he wasn't an effective part of the power play this year.

Although I'm not sure if it was all the injury because there were times last year when he'd refuse to shoot too. But yeah, this year it's probably because he was in pain.

Question for my keeper pool. I have the option to pick Ghost but would have to drop J. Trouba in exchange. Keeping in mind that 1g for a dman = 2 points, should I go for it or stick with Trouba?

These are two players I haven't seen much of so I would appreciate an educated opinion.

As a Jets fan, and Trouba megafan, I would take Ghost. Trouba gets very little PP time, and has the anchor Stuart dragging him down. That could change soon with Buff gone, but Ghost plays the PP now and he looks lie the real deal.

Independent of all of the stats, Gostisbehere just has that intangible "it" factor where he ends up in the right place at the right time in the bog moment. With Morin, there are limited offensive abilities right now, but strong defensive skills and size. I think Ghost-Morin will be an excellent pairing for years to come.

Gostisbehere will score goals. He has a bomb and he loves to shoot. Believe it or not he's actually been passive by his standards despite Giroux telling him to shoot more. I don't see how they can take him off the 1st PP and the Flyers always have one of the best PPs in the league with Giroux, Simmonds, and Voracek.

Will Ghost be sent down when Streit returns?, or would there be a fan revolt if that happened
The Wells Fargo Center might be in flames if they send him down. They have about 3 weeks to figure something out.

Thanks for chiming in. The reason I hesitate is that I really like Trouba's canon from the point and I believe he will end up scoring more goals than Ghost down in the next 2-3 years. And good point about Buff possibly leaving Winnipeg... this should open up some pp time for Trouba.

The other question is related to Ghost's resistance to injury. So many things to consider... really impressed with his overall hockey sense and blazing speed though.

Thanks for the insight. I think I'll go with Ghost.

If they send him down I'll end up getting arrested for arson in a matter of minutes.

I think/hope Hextall will do whatever it takes to keep him up so I'm not worried about it. The plan has been to trade off some of these trash defensemen all year, Ghost coming up and looking this great will just accelerate that process. We still have ~3 weeks until Streit comes back so there's plenty of time to make a move.

I don't think our owner Ed Snider would allow it to be honest. He's just as much of fan as the actual fans so I can't see him being happy with such a move especially since the team is playing well now too.

I'm hopeful it will mean the Flyers finally demote Manning rather than carry 8 D and have Vinny as the 13th forward.

I understand people's hesitation and normally I would agree. I do not see that with Ghost. He has the exact tools that excel in the game today. I'm going to stick with my bold statement since this has been my belief on him for a couple years now and so far the evidence points in that favor. I've seen ghost and Provorov chemistry together and I believe that could be our top pairing in a couple years.

Where did you see that at? Practice? They barely played with each if at all up to this point in time.
