That was a nice shot. In some ways more impressive than the OT winners because he actually got off a laser and didn't fluff the shot like he did on both OT goals.

That said, the OT winners were impressive because of the way the goals unfolded. His ability to find the open spot to release the shot was very impressive.

Every game I have watched him play this year, the announcers can't stop gushing over this kid. They absolutely love the way he sees the ice, skates, and generates offense.

I'm not thrilled with his defensive abilities, but that isn't a huge concern for me. He may never develop into a first pairing defender who can play average defense and put up monster points (like Klingberg or Karlsson), but he can definitely excel as a 2nd pairing defender and power play specialist.

Yeah I don't think anyone believes he will become a Klingberg or Karlsson but I think there is every reason to believe he can end up becoming similar to Krug, Vatanen and Barrie. I'm sure if he can end up scoring 10 goals, 30 assists and improve the powerplay and anchor a 3rd pairing, all flyers fans will be very happy.

I think a lot of people would end up a bit disappointed if all he can do is anchor a 3rd pairing at even strength. Someone who has the ability to offensively think the game the way he does should improve to at least being on a 2nd pairing.

I remember picking him up in my fantasy league a couple of years ago when he was still with Union and people actually replied with "huh?".

I guess they know about him now....

haha exactly what happened to me too when I picked him up back then...

other people thought I was pissing around cause of the odd name and figured it was a joke haha

I'd say the upper end of realistic is for Gostisbehere and Morin to grow into a very effective second pairing, with one of Provorov or Sanheim becoming a top-pairing Dman in a pairing with a more veteran player.

He's already anchoring a 3rd pair lugging around Brandon Manning. If that's all he becomes at his peak then he must have lost a limb or something.

Jamie McClennan just said he is the same caliber of player as Morgan Reilly. If Ghost was a 1st round pick, everyone would be saying he has top pairing potential. His offensive game is going to be elite soon.

Morgan has 20 pounds and two inches on Ghost, but they are both elite skaters who suffered ACL injuries and came back strong.

I really don't think he's been bad defensively at all.
He's not shutdown by any means but, he hasn't been nearly bad enough for it to be mentioned in every post.

Yep, his defensive woes are exaggerated because people see a smallish offensive defensemen and assume he can't play D. He's improved a lot defensively and he's gotten very good at using his stick and skating to compensate for size. He's made mistakes like literally every defensemen who's ever played hockey has, but he's been far from a liability.

I traded voynov for kreider and ghostisbehere as a thrown in for a 4th 2 years ago. I wish they all went that well...

I wouldn't be so sure of that for Gostisbehere. I'm not particularly sold on Morin since I don't believe size is all that important compared to other skills, not that Morin isn't a decently skilled player. Puck retrieval through board playing and clearing the crease is important but Timonen did fairly well and I'd say Gostisbehere is a good bit better in the offensive department than Timonen was. Hockey IQ and a serious compete level is something Gostisbehere has and I wouldn't be that surprised if he ended up as the best defensemen out of the prospects.

It's tough because I think Sanheim will be very very good. And I haven't seen much of Provorov but I only hear good things. Then throw Morin and Hagg in the mix. The future is bright for the Flyers blue line.

No doubt. The flyers have a good problem when it comes to defensive prospects. (Potentially not enough room for players) Especially since the flyers haven't had a great young defensive core for many years.

Already one of my favorite NHL players. He gave the Flyers a look they were completely lacking. Defensive woes are completely overblown due to stereotypical reputation and stature. A wonderful skater who not only takes over the game, but draws fans off their seats.

He's also one of the smartest players on the ice. His IQ already rivals G's.

He might get 10 goals by Christmas at this rate. :)

Agreed. Just saying 10 goals and 30 assists is a benchmark for a solid offensive dman. He's going to be good, hell he already is.

He if hits 40 points this season I would think Hextall gives him a long term extension this summer.

That's what Dallas did when Klingberg scored 40 points in 65 games as a 22 year old.

He still has one year left on his ELC after this season.

He could still be given a new contract if they don't want to wait. Giving him a big deal after one good season would be cheaper than if they waited another year and he kept it up or does even better.

yes, I suppose that is true. That doesn't happen very often, though.

And the poster referred to what Dallas did with Klingberg, but in his case his ELC had expired so they had to extend him. They didn't extend him early.

Im with you on this, however I think Provorov and Sanheim are all top pairing Dmen as well. Maybe even pure #1s.
Anyone who says that ghost won't be as good as Klingberg and EK...that sounds like wishful thinking. Frankly his talent level is already there. Plus he has gotten better in the D zone every game. I have seen no evidence that he will not be a special player capable of dominating a game. Actually I just saw Ghosts corsi ratings in the neutral zone and they are Elite and easily the best on the team. He is definitely a big reason the Flyers have shown to be a better team.

No one thought EK would be as good as he is. Seems to me like Ghost is the same caliber with less experience. I have seen nothing that makes me think otherwise.

If you've watched the game against Union, you saw a future superstar. Most people don't realize that he took a mediocre team to the top, while beating teams with plenty of NHL drafted talented (including Johnny hockey). It's time to stop thinking of Ghost as a one dimensional player and realize that he is on his way to stardom right now.

With Morin, Ghost, Sanheim, Provorov the flyers a lined up to have the best Top 4 they've had since their cup run.
