Not surprised. He just doesn't seem to have the passion for hockey. It seemed like he was just playing because his brother was playing and not because he himself enjoyed it. I think the whole exceptional status thing and being under the microscope and with him being underwhelming and getting a lot of criticism/harsh words because of that probably also didn't help. Easy to lose what little passion you had in a situation like that. As I've said before I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't get picked until the last picks in the 7th round or possibly even go undrafted.
I just really don't think he can be treated like every other prospect, he's such a weird case.
He said himself that he wanted to be a hockey player because of his older brother, but in 2014 his brother/role-model was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing someone while driving drunk. There's no way that can't have adverse consequences for a young kid, especially if it was someone who he looked up to. It's easy to see how that could screw with his passion for the game, but if someone can get him on the right track mentally, he has an elite skillset.
I've never seen a 6"2 230+ lb 18 year old skate like he does. I think he's a worthwhile pick in the 4th round, but I wouldn't be shocked if he went anywhere from the 3rd to the 6th.
