How well does Pedan speak English? I'm guessing it's really nice to have him around from Tryamkins perspective. Good move by management to call him up once Tryamkin got here.

I believe that entirely had to do with the injury to Sbisa and nothing about both of them speaking Russian.

Team is overhyping him so much. If we're lucky he'll look like decent bottom pairing guy this year

Agreed. He can skate and reads the game pretty well but the puck skills are far from high end. Still needs to fill out more and get stronger. The hope is he can become a bigger Jake Muzzin-type player one day.

As usual the whole team top to bottom is super incompetent. The marketing team is hyping him up like he is the next Chara, that is going to be the Canucks Saviour. This is going to bite the team in ass soon, if he struggles.

With luck hopefully he looks like a decent bottom pairing Dman this year

Pedan has been in North America for over 6 years. His English is fluent.

I think that largely has to do with trying to keep fans interested. Most people know the team isn't going to the playoffs but at the same time were not bad enough to be considered real contenders for Matthews many have lost interest and clearly it's showing. Bringing a 6'7" defenseman who can skate over gives people a reason to tune in, the same way putting Jake Virtanen on a line with the twins gives people a reason to tune in.

I doubt most people in the organization actually view him as Chara 2.0

Well, not a bad debut. Got an assist, lost some angles at first, completely unsure of himself, but hey it's a rookie's first game. Went into the corner and knocked a guy down with what looked like no more effort than pushing a door closed. Skates really well, especially for a big guy. Nothing like a John Scott type; his skating's very fluid and he covers a lot of ground very quickly, especially with his pterodactyl-like reach.

Good start for him, hope he continues to build his confidence and learn the game in the smaller rink. Could be a real gamer in a year or two.
