LD Darnell Nurse (2013, 7th, EDM)

Nurse with 13 points in 10 games (4 goals, 9 assists) since been sent down and had a very strong showing at the SSS.

The 2013 draft is looking ridiculous for the top 10

I really like Nurse's game, he can skate, hit, move the puck, shoot the puck and he's in position. He can be a future #1, he has all the tools, sometimes I think he can get too aggressive and take penalties but he definitely has a mean streak. He isn't lacking in one area in his game, I love these type of players.

Nurse will be the do-it-all defenceman for the Oilers IMO, he'll shutdown the opposition's best and be able to take it the other way and score.

Huge fan. Only thing i worry about is his decision making at the NHL level. Will determine whether he is a top pairing or middle pairing guy

Don't look for more than is intended with this comparison.

Last night(against junior level competition) he really reminded me of Chris Pronger. Just the perfect amount of poise and aggressiveness. His only mistake of the night was roughing up Jack Eichel, and from a Canadian point of view, that's not a terrible penalty to take if you're going to take one.

It wasn't his aggressiveness that stood out, it was his skating.

He looked like a young Duncan Keith. Easily one of the best games I have seen him play.

The penalty was stupid but he likely thought it wasn't going to get called. The IIHF refs are ridiculously strict.

I was thoroughly impressed with Nurse yesterday and how mobile he is. I thought he was the most consistent defenseman on the ice by a good margin.

He looks fantastic against fellow junior players. If he can transition to the NHL game, it will go a long way to solving the Oilers defensive woes.

His skating is off the charts. He skates like he's 5 foot 8. I'm in awe whenever I see him, I can't believe he's so strong for how fast he can move.

He was impressive but I was every bit as impressed with Hanifin. I'm talking about overall and skating. Does anyone remember that scoring chance Hanifin created when he went down to the blue line in the offensive zone?

Yeah, Nurse, like Hanifin is a very fluid, almost exquisite, skater. But I feel like playing on Canada, they're going to be on the attack more than their opponents because they have the advantage in terms of overall talent.

But yeah, I think Hanifin and Nurse are similar in a lot
of respects but considering age and the fact that it seemed like Canada brought more consistent pressure, I actually thought Hanifin was slightly more impressive.

Is it just me or does it seem like there are a lot of guys this year who can skate amazingly well?

Hanifin is a great skater but Nurse was on another level against the U.S team. His transitioning is ridiculous and it looks effortless.

Nurse has had the advantage of working with the Oilers staff though.

Should be interesting to watch these 2 going forward as they may be teammates.

I think it was easier for Nurse to stand out given he had better forwards in front of him and a better partner than Hanifin, but I thought Nurse was easily the best defenseman on either side. I think he's basically a lock to be a top-4 defenseman and has a lot more potential than that. I don't think his offense is good enough to be a true #1, but there is the chance that he could be so dominant defensively that it translates into elite possession numbers, and he could be a de facto #1. I think Vlasic is the only guy in the NHL right now who does that, but Nurse has the size, skating, and IQ to pull it off.

I'm really rooting for this kid. I remember he did an interview the summer after he was drafted and for some reason he ended up talking about advanced stats in a positive manner. Seems like a highly intelligent person. Easy guy to root for.

Now there is something you don't hear every day

Wow. Nurse had another amazing game against Russia. The guy is a beast. I think I heard them say that he wasn't on the ice for any goals against in the entire tournament. If true, that's a pretty impressive stat.

Defensively he was awesome.

Offensively, he doesn't quite have the Morrisey / Pouliot skill to pull the offensive game off cleanly, so came away looking silly a few times. It was good to see the enthusiasm though, and his speed is impressive. If he can truly build an offensive game, he could be elite.

He and Theodore weren't on the ice for any even strength goals against

Not really fair to say, Nurse was playing against the oppositions top line all tournament long.

Guy can skate like the wind, battles extremely hard, hes strong, has great gap control, and looks awesome in his own end. Very very excited about him as a prospect. We need someone like him in the worst way up in Edmonton. Praying he pans out.

It's wierd. When I was reading that Canada - Russia thread I got a feeling that Nurse was one of the worst defensemen in the world...
