Leading the OHL D in scoring

9GP 1 G 8 A 9 PTS

With the departure of Sproul he has now taken on the duties as the PP quarterback while also playing first pairing shut down minutes and 1st PK minutes. It seems his offensive potential is breaking out.

Should be interesting to see if he is in the NHL next season. He looked NHL ready in his pre season games

Seems like he comes out second on the PK units to give him a rest because he plays so much in other parts of the game. Still needs to not rush his decisions with the puck too much, everyone knows the other parts of his game, he is an absolute beast physically and his skating is effortless for such a big player.

Has he been playing very physical? He wasn't overly physical in preseason and likely needs to add some beef before he can play that way against men.

Imo he tried to be physical in camp, but he just doesn't have the size or strength yet to muck it up successfully with men. Hoping to see him at 200+ next training camp, and maybe if we're lucky he will grow another 2 inches to be the same height as pronger ;)

After 2 periods in his game tonight Nurse has another goal to give him 5g 18P +5 and 35PIM in 17GP

Can any OHL fans give an update as to how he's looking these days?

In the two games against Kingston that I saw this season, Nurse looked really good. Physical and nasty (in a good way) in his own zone, and seemed to jump into the play every chance he got offensively. It also looked like he rarely left the ice. I think he played 30 minutes in each of those games.

So after what MacTavish said about taking a C, you think it was a smokescreen and the selection of Nurse was the player he wanted all along, or he went BPA after seeing the centers he wanted were already gone?

I think if Monahan were on board, MacT would have taken him ahead of Nurse. But Nurse was clearly the BPA at 7 from the Oilers' perspective.

Thanks for the report. I am hoping he doesn't get injured so I can see how he looks in the WJC.

Putting up some unreal numbers. Especially for a shutdown D.

Is there other examples of physical shut down D making such a progression offensively?

10 pts in rookie season, 41 pts draft year and PPG pace (55 over a 68 game season would be dandy).

After his performance in preseason games and play in the OHL thus far, I have no doubt hell play so big minutes in the NHL next year.

His major knock on draft day was his weak shot, but by all accounts hes improved it drastically. If he can put on 10 more pounds by next season hell by dynamite

Should make a solid 2nd-3rd defenseman in the NHL

He should make a solid 2nd-3rd but he also has a good chance to be a #1 and a good one. I'm loving this pick so far.. kids going to be a monster. I wouldn't even mind if the Oilers kept him in OKC for a full season before bringing him up just to not rush him. He's probably going to be NHL ready next year but so will Klefbom. I'm not sure we can afford to have two rookies on that blueline.

20 points in 18 games, dominating physically and defensively. I can't wait to see him at the Super Series and World Juniors.

what are the chances he becomes a 1D?

He has all the tools and is tracking towards that kind of player. He should fill out no problem considering he works out basically every day. Size, skating, mobility, IQ, and now a developing offensive game.. his potential is huge.

Well the odds are stacked against him being drafted by KLowe and company. We can only hope.

SHG for him today. Moving him to 7g 16a 23P in 21 games thus far. Craig Button was commenting on his dominance in the OHL this season. He should be a key member of the WJC this tourny, hopefully its his coming out party

It would be a dream come true if he was paired with Ekblad at the WJC. That would be all kinds of big and nasty (and hopefully a glance at the Oilers future to pairing).

I think he can become a 1D but i think he most likely becomes a real good #2. Almost the Same level as seabrook or bouwmeester

He scored but he was awful yesterday. Dominance is a strong word.

He was? He scored and was +1 while his team allowed 6 goals. Can you elaborate on how he was awful please? The other reports we've seen from fans, coaches, media folks like Button all say he's been one of the better d-men in the OHL this season.
