LD Darnell Nurse (2013, 7th, EDM)

He is going to be an absolute force at the NHL level in a few years. Nurse is built for the NHL and he is the type of heart and soul player that every team would love.

Kid is going to be an outstanding defenseman in the NHL. After watching a lot of the Oilers camp he just stands out every drill he is in. Unbelievably good skater for a guy his size, a true leader who guys rally around, great defensive reading, a monster physically, very good at moving and handling the puck and his shot seems to be a lot more accurate.

Everyone is going to know when he is out on the ice. Every single shift.

Mr. Writer went to the training camp expecting to rave about McDavid. He did but he was more impressed with Nurse.

Nurse has apparently put on 20 lbs since last September according to the oilers twitter account. He is an absolute beast right now in their rookie camp.

I don't think the is any way he won't make the opening night roster. Look for him to have a huge impact on the oilers this year.

If I remember correctly, he wasn't exactly small to begin with.

The only thing I didn't like about Calgary selecting Monahan was that it left this kid hanging around for the Oilers. He's going to be a force.

Nurse is a unique talent

he's got size, physicality, he's mean and tough to play against...
beautiful skater, second only to McDavid at this camp...
and looks like he can run a PP too

gonna be a force in a few years

He was just lanky. Seems like he's filling out now.

I don't remember but I thought he was thick/well developed for his age. The comparisons were made between him and Jones and he was better built at Draft time. Never thought of him as lanky. Maybe I am misremembering. Don't quote me because my memory is not the best.

How is he so fast at that size? It's bewildering to watch him outskate nearly everyone sans McDavid at camp.

If put together properly, his combination of size, speed, and meanstreaks could really do damage in the coming years.

He was pretty lanky when drafted. 6'4'' 190lbs, iirc.

Was up to 205lbs last season.

Apparently he's 220-225lbs now.

If it's any consolation, I think if both Monahan and Nurse were available to the Oilers they would've taken Monahan

Yep i remember all these exact things, were said about our big man on defense.Defensemen take time remember that edm ,if he struggles

In a few years I wouldn't be surprised if he were the second best player on the Oilers. Nurse is so damn good.

Has Pronger like potential if he can develop his offensive games. More likely he ends up a 30 point but smooth skating, hard hitting shut down number 2; maybe Seabrook is the closest comparison or a Bouwmeester with worse skating (could say that about 99% of players in the NHL) but much more physical. Either way looks like a very valuable piece long term.

the one thing Mctavish did right. and as for the last post about his Hockey IQ is he a dunce in that department ??? I dont really know him.

Big dmen take time edm ,dont look at what he can do in junior .He will have to try and establish his physical game ,in the worlds most physical hockey league .Expect him to fight tons, and take some time to put all the pieces together. Most big dmen do take the longest

When drafted a was a little worried about the pick, not anymore. i have read some negative posts but anytime I've seen him play he played well.

I think his offensive instinct are fine, not elite but good enough, it's his shot that needs work on.

He is a physical shut down defender, good first pass is all he needs .Anything more is just gravy

He will have to simplify his game at the pro level for sure, can't play like he did in SSM, but I still see him as more of a 2way guy, maybe 30ish points.

He's got a ton of skill.

Not too hard for him to get points with the ice time he will recieve,he wasnt drafted as a pmd is really what i meant .He is your muscle on the defense,he wont be leading the rush
